Diesel Octy Advice Please

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a diesel estate but really for a car to hack to work and back in I'm loath to spend more than I have to. I like the VAG PD engines and used to have an Ibiza with the 130 in it before the Furby vRS was launched, so:

If I want a 'Tavia with the 130PD I need to look for an Elegance? I believe they came out in '03 but on what reg? Are they all 6-speed and the previous 110s all 5-speed? Any other way I can tell them apart in case I end up in an auction about to stick my hand up - I don't want to buy the 110 by mistake!

Thanks in advance for any help.

The badge on the back is the biggest clue, the 110 is TDI and the 130 is TDI

The 130 is only available in the Elegance and L&K IIRC and I think they came out on the '03 plate but i'm not 100% on that one.

But other than that, the biggest clue is the 6 speed box, all 130's have a six shifter, all 110's have a 5 speed box.

Apart from engine codes and the like, these are the biggest tell tales.

Yup - 130 came out on an 03 plate. Elegance and L & K trim only and the badge Tdi instead of Tdi

And a 6 speed box as well. Wanted one, but was recovering at the time from being stung by Alfa Finance & Depriciation - So ended up with a Fabia.

Thanks. Are you happy with yours?

Very very happy, mine is in fact a company car and it can achieve mid 50's to the gallon on a good motorway trip and can embarrass alot of other cars if suitably provoked lol!

Mine is an elegance and i would recommend one to anybody, it's also an '04 plate and has passed 63,000 miles without a hitch.

Getting my second Octy in April

Anothyer Octy 130 here , 12 months 20k miles and not a hitch . So much more power than the 110 . Average the 50 mpg . Still seem rare as second hand , have not seen many advertised .

There are also PD130 Ambiente SE models from a 54 plate onwards , but I'm not 100% certain they were available in estate as well as hatch.

Best way to make sure is the 6 speed gearbox. The badge on the back could be changed but it's much harder to swap a gearbox :D

I just checked my old posts and found this one. It took a while, but I finally bought one yesterday.

Back in '05 I went with a 530d Touring which was fantastic for 50k miles and I'd have had another one now, but they are virtually non-existent this side of the planet and the Octy reminds me of the Beemer more than anything else I've driven since, plus it feels like it shares the superior build quality of the RS6 that replaced the BM. Just over 24 hours into ownership I'm pretty pleased with it.
