Armrest in.......but flimsy

Featured Replies

Installed a mk4 golf armrest into my fabia vrs today. Looks well, but is a little flimsy and a snug fit between both front seats. I screwed self tapers underneath the centre console as described by a tired on here and I intend to re upholster the top again. Any ideas how to make it more sturdy?

This is exactly why I don't think I'm going to install mine. Self tappers to support, at times, a fair amount of weight... I'm not too confident about it to be honest.

Whatever happens your going to damaged the centre consol. Might as well drill a hole all the way through and out the other side and put some

But and bolts through it.

Just had a drive out and it supports my weight fine. Think it's more to enhance the interior setup. Tried uploading a photo but it's having none of it

i welded bolts to the floor and bolted it down as i thought putting screws in would be flimsy.

screws are too flimsy, i used a bit of angle iron and threaded bolt extensions fitted to the existing hand brake bolts (lathes are great!) , solid as a rock..

if i can ever work out how to resize pictures on my phone i'll upload them!

I self tapped mine in and it was fine for the 2 years it was there. If you're that worried then get some small lengths of 2x1 inside the structure so the self tappers have somewhere to anchor.

Could you upload some pictures with the final result or is there a different topic with a DIY guide? It sounds interesting. I would install one with a 12V plug in it.
