sump sealant alternative?

Featured Replies

Standard Skoda sealant for the sump is a silicone based hard setting material.  However is hylomar blue a suitable alternative?  I've used this to good effect for gasketing the cam carrier on my K-series powered Rapid, so don't see why I can't use it in this application.  Anyone used this sort of non setting anaerobic gasket compound on theirs?

Thanks in advance

im looking for same answers today mate. wanting to chane my pickup pipe. been told loctite 5910 is the best

My favourite flange sealant (ooer) is Loctite 5699. I've used it on gearbox casings, water rails etc. etc. with good effect and it does stick like **** and doesn't leak if applied properly and sparingly. HOWEVER, like with all silicone goo, if you go mental with it in internal oil applications, bits of it can drop off and clog up galleries, e.g. K-series cam ladders with tiny oilways. But with a sump, there are no oil galleries nearby, just the pickup to clog up if you aren't careful. I can't see a reason why you can't use Hylomar Blue though?

Used Loctite 5910 on mine, just read the instructions re curing time before you use the car again.

I found Victor Reinz very effective
