Variable to fixed

Featured Replies

Done 9200 miles in 18 months and the oil change message came up. Took the roomie for the service and the dealer had reset it to fixed servicing. I questioned it as it was on Q16 variable servicing when the car was supplied new. Dealer said that as I do a low annual mileage, fixed would be better and that variable servicing was only beneficial to high milers. What is cheaper for me variable or fixed?

Bit of a strange question to ask? If your driving pattern stays the same you would have a variable service every 18months which at a Skoda dealer who follows the national pricing policy is the same price as a major service on fixed. Fixed servicing alternates between a minor and major each year/10,000 miles whichever comes 1st. I would agree with the dealer that for the cars benefit it will be better off on the fixed regime.

Variable servicing is designed for fleet managers looking to save a few pounds over three years. With low annual mileage and if you intend to keep the car for any length of time definitely fixed is the way to go.

The oil change service came to £101.99 (incl. Vat). The car was also washed and valeted inside. From a main dealer, I suppose at today's prices was acceptable. He said a major service would be £198 not including £28 for pollen filter.
