esp/abs fault. covered?

Featured Replies

Bought my vrs tdi cr about a month ago and is in warranty from the Fords dealer I got it from

Tonight my esp/abs and tyre pressure lights came on. Looking on the net it could be anything from pump failure to dirt on connections.

Anyhow if there is a failure with pump would this kind of stuff be covered for repair?

Cheers.

Search on here for 'Teeves', this is the well documented ABS failure that plagues a lot of early VAG cars.

The ABS sensors on the rear hubs have also been known to fail which also results in the lights you are seeing.

Either way I'd expect both of these faults to be covered under a warranty.

Ideally you need to plug the car in and get the fault codes read.

First port of call for me would be back to the supplying dealers.

What year is yours?

Here is report posted on the review website honestjohn earlier this year:

"9-5-2015: Report of G201 fault code (ATE Teves Mk 60 ABS/ESC module brake pressure sensor) on 2008/58 Octavia VRS. Letter from Skoda read: " I am unable to offer goodwill towards the repair. This is because there are a number of vehicles of a specific chassis range affected by this issue. Your vehicle does not fall within these parameters.." Basicaslly what they are saying is that because the car is more than 6 years old it's outside their Sale of Goods Act liability. The answer is to send the module to http://www.ecutesting.com for a fix for about £400, plus the cost of removing the module, post and packing, and re-fitting. (The reader later reported that his dealer had agreed to do it for £400.)"

May not be relevant in your case, but as you have only recently bought the car it could be used to put pressure on the garage selling it as you may have a known fault.

First step is to get a diagnostic reader on the car to check for fault codes as said before.

Ecu testing has a page with a list of the controllers prone to failing by part no.

Nice one. Calling dealer I got car from tomorrow to get it looked at (Trust Ford)

The lights have now gone off and it's had a good drive today. They still haven't come back on but worth getting it checked out anyway!!

If the lights go off then come back on as you pass 30mph it's probably the reluctor ring on a hub. They go rusty and give false readings

Means a new hub but not the end of the world..

If you need a new rear hub check the condition of the disc stone guard. They corrode and come loose but you need to take the hub off to change them. It's a cheap part so worth doing at the same time (similar to doing the water pump at cambelt time).

I'm booked in to have it checked early June. The lights still haven't come back on as of yet. Weird one
