replacing springs and shock absorbers

Ok, that makes perfect sense. I've never thought about it this way. I was thinking it's mostly electric assisted, because I killed the engine one time when I was trying to park the car and even with the engine stalled, the power steering was working fine.

My MPi had the following

Momo strut brace

Rear brace

Front lower brace

I've found a few strut braces that I could buy, made of 2 different materials, aluminium and steel. I'd go for the second one, I don't really have a weight issue. Would it be a good idea ? I mean, how is the chassis torque passed via each one of those? Would it be better to be a little bit flexible or not ?

How is the front lower brace mounted? Does it connect the wishbones together somehow ? Does it still allow you to use an undertray shield for the engine and gearbox (steel, aftermarket, not the plastic one) ?

Does anybody know the color VW color codes for the Fabia coil springs ? I'm speaking about the ETKA's front axle 41110 -  41111 and the rear axle 51110. What's the comfort/driving/handling combination between those dots?

ISTR that steering assistance weight can be set by VCDS?!

The dots aren't just comfort/handling variations. Engine type, body type, axle weights can create a different colour coding for the springs.

There are basic steering settings but they don't make much difference, I have mine set to 00120 which is the sports setting, I've tried every different option and they all suck, far too light, so I intend to put the flow control valve in and adjust it until the steering is slightly too heavy then fine tune it using VCDS as required.

As far as I've been reading:

xxxxx - steering assist coding

?xxxx - 0 without airbag / 1 with airbag

x??xx - 01 without ESP / 12 with ESP - very important - it should use the steering angle sensor or the ESP sensor, according to the vehicle's setup

xxx?? - 10 - 60, decreasing stiffness

In my case, I'm keeping it on 10110  :notme: it's pretty ok-ish IMHO and my tire pressures are 2.1 on front and 2.0 on the back (most of the time I'm driving with only one passenger and very very light).

Again, this is only my research, not an official thing, so please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

@sepulchrave - I really doubt your car doesn't have ESP or airbags. I know mine was originally bought by Fred Flintstone himself .. but I can see you are riding the one with 100PS..

ontopic: I'm trying to find for a set of soft front + rear coil springs and combine them nice set of shock absorbers. I'm pretty much aware that I'm looking for an utopic setup, with good performance while handling tight corners (car is not jumpy / tailhappy), but it also interested about a high level of comfort while driving around city on not-that-good roads, with a fairly high amount of potholes, tram line passings, unpaved parking spots and so on.

Alex, I love you.

I do have airbags but I don't have ESP, now I know why my airbag module has turned itself off, I've coded the PAS wrong!

Oh ... ok... that makes sense..ish...so was the issue fixed by recoding the PAS module ?
