Reversing sensors stopped working.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Today I got in my car after work and when I put the car in reverse I didn't get my usual beep nor blink from the LED in the speaker unit. I back up to something to see if it was just the initial sound not working but no luck, I checked they were still turned on on the radio too and they are.

Any ideas?

It is a 58 plate 1.4 tdi fabia estate.

Cheers

Gareth

Do you have a gear indication on the dashboard MFD - that would at least prove you were getting a signal from the gearbox as to the engaged gear, specifically reverse to enable the parking sensors.

Or just see if the reverse lights come on?

Hello,

The same thing happened to me.

Got up in the morning to go to work, got it on reverse, but no beep....

I'm about to buy a vagcom cable to check for errors.

I've got a Fabia II combi 1.4 tdi, 2008.

It came from factory with the rear sensors, does anyone has pictures where I can find where is the module ?

Thanks in advance !

behind the trim in the boot that covers the rear wheel arch.

it will be a sensor thats failed though

Sorry to ask this, but my english is not that good and it gets worse and it becomes to technical issues.

You mean inside the car trunk, that's what boot means, right ?

Is it in the same place where the lights are or I have to remove the panel right next to it ?

The boot is the trunk yeah - the opposite end of the car to the engine compartment.

Open the boot and then you will need to remove the carpet trim from the left hand side and the PDC unit will be mounted to the wheel arch behind

Thanks a lot :)

I ordered the vagcom cable from china and it will take about 20 days to get here....

At that time I'll check for errors to see if it's the module or a sensor, the module I'll try to change it but if it's a sensor I'll ask some guy to do it because I'm sure I can´t do it :)

The sensors are easier to change than the module but will need painting to match. It will be a sensor that's failed, and diagnostics will tell you which one it is.

P.S. If the cable you've ordered is really claiming to be a vagcom one then please do not ask for assistance on the forum on how to use it as it'll be a pirated one that you've ordered.

Just wondering as ive had sensors fail lately too..

Do all manufacturers sensors fail this much? Is it just a fact of life that reversing sensors are actually quite unreliable?

I don't think they're particularly unreliable. Think where they are; up inside the bumper where they are subject to quite a lot of vibration, exhaust fumes and road cr*p. Add that on top of the fact that they're an electromechanical device and therefore move by definition. I'm impressed they last more than a couple of months.

Hmm true.

Ive had 2 replaced up to now and im having issues again (particularly after washing the car down ive noticed) so itll be going back to the dealers again if it gets continous enough that i can be sure it wont work fine as soon as i turn up to the dealers haha.

Mines a 2013 and only done 20300 miles

Once warrantys run out, i can see them being a PITA tbh haha.

If they are painted then check that the paint is sound and not bubbling or corrosion underneath as this can make the sensors not work properly

My car is dated 2008 and has close to 100.000 km, only now had small issues besides battery change.

Regarding vagcom beeing original or pirated, don't understand that much on it, but I've seen some friends using it so I guess to make a diagnosis it will not be that hard.

In case of a damaged sensor, do I have to remove the bumper to change it or can acess and replace from underneath ?

I think you can get at thr middle two sensors from underneath, but the outter 2 require bumper removal. Iirc
