New pickup owner with a few questions

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I've been coming on the forum to read about various common faults and just to see generally what can be done to them but this is the first time I've posted.

I bought my Skoda towards the end of last year and have been driving it trouble free ever since. The sills were rotten when I bought it but I got a mate to weld them up. I'm ok at spanner bashing but I'm rubbish at welding. Here's a photo.

I've got a few questions about it. What actually is it? I know it's not a Fun. On the logbook it's a Felicia but on the Euro Car Parts computer it's a Cube van. No insurance company that I spoke to could find it on their system and I've also seen people call them Formans. Which is correct?

I've had a fault that's develop over the last week or so. I first noticed it on Saturday. I was driving up the M1 to Donington Park from junction 12 and around junction 23 it seemed to struggle on the hills. I had been doing a comfortable 70mph all the way but all of a sudden it was struggling to do 60. I first noticed it when I pulled out to overtake a HGV and I had to tuck back in behind it as it pulled away from me up a hill! I was at Donington all day and it was the same all the way back. It seemed to be drinking fuel (It's a 1.6 petrol) too.

I haven't changed the service parts since I've had it so I thought I'd get all new ignition bits to see if that made a difference. Strangely, on the drive to Euros this afternoon it seemed fine again. I've fitted all my new parts and I'm yet to get it on a motorway/duel carriageway to see if it's sorted it but while I was changing the parts I noticed this.

Now, I'm no expert on Skoda production methods but I'm pretty sure they don't use silicone sealant to hold sensors on in the factory. I'm guessing that's a sensor of some sort. Cam Position? Can I get a new one anywhere? I couldn't find anything like it listed on Euro Car Parts website. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm guessing this could be the source of my intermittent fault.

Thanks,

Edd

It might be a cube van that someone has turned into a pickup, not hard to do. The foreman name was only used on the favorit, not the felicia.

And yes, the 1.6 can be a bit thirsty.

It's a felicia pickup or cube van or a vw mk2 caddy pick up the good old aee lump any think from b pillar fallward is a felicia

And that sensor does break it's only where the wires plug to that's the cam sensor and part off the dissy

Hi,

Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. If we have any issues locating the vehicle on our data base we have the facility to enter the vehicle details manually so we should be able to quote.

Regards,

Dan.

I wouldn't, they tried to invalidate the insurance on my pickup twice.

Thanks guys. No problems getting it insured, just hardly any had it on their database.

Just seen another post where a cube van has been converted to a pick so I can see that mine actually used to be a van.

Not sure what to do about the busted hall sensor. No where lists them. Guessing my best bet is a scrapyard? Hate buying sensors from scrapyards though.

It's easier to swap the whole disi if you're going for second hand parts. I think I've got one... Somewhere, so if you can't find one elsewhere, let me know and I'll try and find it when I get chance.
