G250 Steering Angle sensor fault

Featured Replies

Hello,

I recently replaced my rack for a refurbished unit from Euro Car Parts. Since then I've been getting an intermittent warning light on my dash when taking roundabouts (or motorway slip roads with a bend) and the steering going into "limp home" mode which runs very heavy. After scanning the car it reported a fault with the G250 sensor "Low voltage" (I can't remember the exact wording). The sensor came off my other rack and is a brown metal connector. When we removed it we were very careful not to get any dirt etc onto the unit.

Does anyone know if the rack it's self could cause this fault?  I wouldn't have thought we would need a new sensor as well..

I've got pretty much the similar problem here. Also had a refurbished rack and swapped sensor over to new rack. Had no problems for a month or 2 but now I'm having issues with power steering light coming on while driving, steering goes a little bit heavier and if you turn the wheel very quickly the steering feels as if the pump has a delay and then kicks in a second or 2 later. If I ignition cycle the car it will turn the light off every time and won't re appear for 10 minutes or so.

Had codes checked and had g250 steering angle sensor fault (can't remember full code also)

I got a angle sensor and a genuine rack

And i have got this same issue and i solved it too. Proplem my case was this pump and i got this Koyos model but i found used one and it still works.

I got all so this same fault code G250 somthing....Yes i change this G250 but it dosent help me nothing and all so i charged my battery too and no helps at all so on and on...

It made same kind thing like like you Iainmack says. Steering goes a little bit heavier and if you turn the wheel very quickly the steering feels as if the pump has a delay and then kicks in a second or 2 later. Those was my first feelings too and after that it goes worst.

Yeah if your pump works even litell pit it gives you lets say 60% power steering and its not feel that bad but if you drive slow speed like parking area it feel quite heavy.

That meaning this pump keeps default rpm which are about 1800 rpm   all the time and its not change what ever you do.

When your pump works correctly it runs faster when you turn quick steering wheel  then pump can reach about 3000rpm.

You can ask for there...

But rememeber IF you have RHD car im not sure but maeby new pump must be  RHD modell then.

I hope yours car faulty codes is this G250 sensor and not this pump issue  and be sure whic system you have is it this Koyo or TRW. And Remember TRW  G250 sensor dosent fit Koyos system rack and TRW G250 dosent fit koyos system

Thought I'd provide an update regarding this fault.

To try and rule out the G250 sensor I swapped it off my wifes 1.4 TDi (which has the same rack system), unfortunately the fault remained so I spoke to euro car parts who informed me that the rack might be faulty due to it being off center before installing it into the car (we originally had concerns about this but spoke to the company who ECP used to re-con these rack and was given duff info). The rack was swapped out (only the rack, not the pump or sensor) and the intermittent fault vanished. Unfortunately 3 days later my car decided to drop it's fluid over the course of the day and we discovered the same seals where faulty on the new rack as well.

We again spoke to ECP who upgraded the rack from a Q-Drive to a Remy rack. Physically I can't tell the difference (except it came with track rod arms this time and was packaged better). The car is now running on this rack and so far it's been OK - fingers crossed.

What year is the car?

I changed mine last year and you need to watch out for the different types. I obtained a new replacement that was supposedly matched to the make of the pump I had  but I believe that even then there are two versions. The sensor I took out was black plastic both sides of the bit that fits into the rack thus it surrounds both sides of the rotating vane in the rack. Most you see appear designed to fit to one side of the rack's rotating vane. Once I found one that looked the same as the one I took out all was well - actually came off a 9n polo.

There are two different types of rack. One with a single Hall effect sensor, the other with a twin. They are not interchangeable and G250 is different for both racks.

I have a problem with the power steering on my fabia mk1 1.4L Saloon, the power steering works very seldom, i reckon i have to replace the steering angle sensor, if there a way for me to check which sensor i need depending on what rack i have, i dont know what rack type i have?

thanks for your help

Just order it from Skoda with your vehicle details and you will get the right one.
