Estate - variable boot floor - retrofit?

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm waiting to take delivery of a new 1.4TSi SE Estate in Race Blue, bought from Skoda stock so we get the PX allowance and interest free credit - and won't need to do the 4yr service/MOT and tax on our Fabia.

Because it's a stock vehicle I couldn't add any options so can anyone tell me if the variable boot floor is available as a retrofit accessory?

Ta.

I have a variable floor in my 1.4TSI Elegance and I wish I didn't.  I hate the fecking thing and I can't think of one single useful feature about it.  It's like something dreamt up in a pub in Prague late one night after several Budvars too many.  You're better off without it.

Probably better to make your own version if you can as the variable floor isn't all that strong and will buckle a bit with a heavy load in your car. I got mine taken out and put back in again by my dealer after I complained about it being left with a permanent dip in it. I ended up putting wooden blocks underneath it to give it extra support to keep the floor flat,of course by the time the dealers looked at it, the floor seemed to be fairly level again, not sure if it has springs or something inside it but it certainly isn't always on the level.

Only good thing is that it gives you a place to put all the clutter out of sight, stuff like shopping bags, spare shoes etc and some of the dogs stuff too.

Like some others, I ordered it for mine but it spends its whole time in the down position.  For what I regularly carry in the boot, the lost few inches of height is significant if I have it in the up position.

Even with it down, I slightly resent the half inch or so that it takes off the load height.   On the other hand, it does strengthen and protect the boot floor and there may be odd times I use it in the up position so, tempting though it is, I don't think I'll remove it completely as I have considered.

By the way, the felt material (I really don't think it deserves to be called carpet) that the variable boot floor is covered with has already torn in two places on mine.  Admittedly I do carry some sharp and heavy items (a wheelchair and a mobility scooter) but I do feel the boot floor carpet in my old Golf GTi wouldn't have been so fragile.
