Fabia power steering sensor

Featured Replies

Greetings all

Just about to become proud owner of a 53 reg skoda fabia comfort 1.9tdi - had the loan of a golf 1.9 tdi a few weeks back and this converted me to diesel initially, the sheer torque was unbelievable!, anyway i test drove the fabia and was happy enough with the performance compared to the golf (unsurprisingly as i understand they share the same power unit exept the skoda fabia has better power to weight ratio) anyway this sold me the car....

However...

I noticed something during a test drive and after doing a little research on this site and elsewhere am now a bit concerned, during the testdrive the power steering light was on, I asked about this and was told this was due to the battery or something not being charged which sounds a bit lame to me, anyway the car is under warranty so what i want to know is do Skoda UK actually recognise this as a fault as I see no official recall relating to the sensors failing?

cheers again

Matt

Your sensor should be just fine on a 53 plate car as that will have th latter type on it (never changed one of them).

They wouldnt recall the sensor as its not really a safety issue, you will allways have steering and if it goes wrong you have a warning light.

And the seller is quite right, the light will come up if battery voltage is low.

Last winter I had the sensor changed on my 03 Fabia TDI. Below zero, the power steering light would come on and there wouldn't be any power assistance. Drive about for a couple of minutes and turn the ignition off and back on again would bring it back to normal.

It hasn't happened since they changed it... but it hasn't been freezing yet! We'll see in a few months whether the problem has really gone. It is possible that the sensor wasn't actually faulty.
