Estate Roof Bars - any recommendations ?

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend any, there appears so many different makes ? Are the proper Skoda ones the best, or doesn't it matter ?  Many thanks.

I've got Thule. I believe the exodus ones from halfords are also Thule , albeit previous models.

I bought a pair from Lidil for about £25 about a year ago and they were absolutely fine. Put a roof box on and drove down to Paris. There was some wind noise but I think that was from the box rather then the bars.

Because I am posting via the mobile site I don't know what body style you have. The above were for an estate.

I suppose it depends on what you need them for and if you plan to just leave them on all the time or just as required. If it is the latter then I would suggest cheap and cheerful. Otherwise see what everyone else recommends as noisey bars would drive me mad.

I have Atero Signo bars which can be obtained from the Roofbox Company (although mine were second hand via eBay). I also have Thule, but the Atero bars sit at a slightly lower height above the roof rails which is important to me when using a roofbox.

If you have the budget for them, get the Whispbar, available from roofbox. Quietest bars on earth. You will need to use T-bolt mountings on them rather than clamps, as they are pretty wide due to the aero shape.

There are a couple of flavours to choose from, depending on how you want to mount them.

I have Thule AeroBars, which are quiet and have worked perfectly so far (kayak transporter service).

Thanks all. I used to have some on my Vauxhall that had a neat lever system to attach. Is was very quick and easy. The Thule ones I've seen seem to have a clamp tightening arrangement, presumably this works ok? Does anyone have any quick-fix bars?
