A20 Dover port approach 6 mile of 40mph average speed cam's.

Featured Replies

Just some info for travellers to dover port on the A20.

Due to traffic management reasons 5 or 6 miles before the already 40mph A20 road, there is a reduction from 70 mph to 40 mph over this stretch and its got average speed cameras.

So if your off to the port allow more time for the reduction in speed limit, general confusion with foreign trucks  and expect to be delayed further at the new traffic lights at western heights roundabout.

I am happy to keep to the new speed limit but others, foreign registered cars and trucks just don't slow down, still doing 70 mph+ and this is not good for road safety !.

Its only the coast/port bound road,i will be using the A2 approach in future.

The new speed limit is stupid. Its main reason for being there is during times of disruption, when there are large queues, but they have made the limit permanent.

You wont be delayed by the new lights as they are only in operation during times of disruption, in order to control the amount of traffic through the town.

You will only lose a maximum of 5mins compared to going 70 (its only about 5 miles), so depending on where you are coming from its still better than the A2/ M2, which is usually slower.

30 mph slower for 5 miles is only two and a half minutes lost. :)  If you're running late for a ferry, it's not going to make much difference. :D

Plus I hope you can still give it beans in the tunnel too.  :D
