Another Variable Service Interval Question

Featured Replies

I asked for my car to be set up on the variable service, longlife interval as I do a lot of miles and will be handing the car back after the 3 year lease ends.

I have driven about 3000 miles so far and the display in the car says an oil change is due in 7000 miles.

Does it take awhile to calculate the interval or has my dealer set up the car on fixed interval servicing?

You car is currently set to fixed servicing.

Christ. Luckily I have the email to the dealer stating I want the car set to longlife and their response confirming that this will be done.

I take it as the same oil is used regardless of service plan, it is easy to swap to the requested longlife service schedule?

Depends which engine - petrol or diesel?

On diesels it is the same oil regardless, can't comment on petrols as I prefer poisoning everyone with NOx and particulates.

Mine recently went in for its first service at 9.5k which surprised me as I thought it was on variable. In fact when I phoned the lease company to book it in they said that seemed too soon for an oil change on variable. No comment from the dealer though, just serviced and got it back.

Comes from the factory from new with long life oil. Some dealers change it to 10000 to give them more servicing opportunity! Dealers PDI will have changed it to 10000.

If its on free servicing then it has to be done at 10000 anyway.

If its not then they can reset it at the miles its at now because the engine will still have logged how its been driven and should recalculate the service. I had this happen on my MK2 vRS.

It's a diesel so the same oil. Annoying as I specifically asked for it to be on variable servicing.
