starter brushes

Featured Replies

Hi how can i remove abd replace the starter brushes of my skoda felicia 1.3lx ? Thanks

No real description in Haynes, except to say that they have to be soldered in . With that in mind, I'd be looking at a minimum of 100w soldering iron and subject to other comments using plumber solder ( to cope with any temperature increase ). Having said that ,Haynes does make one other useful comment- might be more cost effective to look fro reconditioning/ reconditioned unit, bearing in mind that if the brushes are low, then how much damage has been done to ( e.g.) solenoid contacts ,leading to a high voltage drop across the contacts, and then there's the shaft bushes.

From the photo in Haynes, it would seem similar to other starter motors of it's type - with the brushes protected by a metal clamp ,and most possibly held in place by a spring arrangement.
