Rad Question

Featured Replies

The code for my radiator for my 2003 1.4mpi is 6q0 121 253J.  I have seen one for sale which has the code 6q0 121 253AG and was wondering if I could fit this to my car.  No idea what the J and AG mean at the end of the codes.  Any help would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

Victor

Does the car have Air conditioning? How many fans are there? How wide is the current rad?

6Q0 121 253AG is listed as being 430 X 414 X 23mm and fitted to, for example, 75bhp 1.4 engine cars without AC, with towing facility, and with manual gearbox.

Thanks for your reply Wino.  My car has no aircon, manual gearbox. Not sure of the bhp but the engine code is AQW(50kW), also not sure about towing facility.

That's all promising so far, just need to know whether your existing fan arrangement will bolt up to it OK. (Measure dimensions of current radiator, if yours has one big and one small fan, you probably have a wider radiator that won't be equivalent, if you have a single big fan, it might be.)

Something changed during 2003 that means different part numbers are suggested depending on chassis number, and none of the current suggestions match your J, or AG suffix, see here (top three item 1s).

Have a look at your VIN, and see what the last (at the right hand end) six numbers are, and check that the eighth number from the right hand end is a 3, then you should be able to tell which of 6Q0121253AE or 6Q0121201HA is the Skoda-recommended replacement number. The 6Y-3-647001 / 6Y-3-647002 numbers are either side of the change, and the dashes either side of the 3 replace numbers that should be ignored in your VIN. So for the sake of argument, imagine your VIN has 6Y234650000 as its last 11 digits, you'd replace the 2 and 4 either side of the 3 with dashes, to get 6Y-3-650000 and conclude that your car is in the second range, and should get  6Q0121201HA as the replacement part number.

I guess the towing thing means if it had a towbar fitted from the factory, I guess yours hasn't got one?

Sorry this doesn't really answer whether the AG one will fit!  Also the fact that the parts list says "before parts order physical inspection of old part necessary" suggests they're not too confident about the chassis number transition...

Mine would be 6y-3-680166, so am I right in thinking it would be the 6Q0121201HA?

Yeah, I think so.  Only thing is, that part number looks very odd.  I'm suspicious that the suffix is a typo in the webpage I linked, and should be AH, not HA.  Look it up on google with HA and AH at the end and see which generates any that are actually for sale anywhere.

Ignore that bit I've just crossed out. It looks like there are some 6Q0121201HA part numbers available on Ebay. See if you can find a listing that shows that number and lists equivalent numbers, and hope to see your 6q0 121 253AG listed as equivalent. :)
