Passenger window stuck open please help!

Featured Replies

Hi people

2006 fabia VRS

As per title pulled up at gym tonight and passenger window is down and wouldn't come up!! I could hear a crunching/crackling sound when i tried to raise the window but it won't budge.

I have just removed the door card to see if i could identify the problem but all i found was a big metal shield.... sheez these cars are like fortresses!!

I suspect a window regulator but im not sure what the issue could be and looking for a second opinion really

I have seen the following two regulators on ebay: Which one would i need?

1. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-FABIA-WINDOW-REGULATOR-REPAIR-CABLE-SET-FRONT-LEFT-PASSENGER-

SIDE-/111456531499?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Model%3AFabia|Cars+Type%3A1.9+TDI+RS&hash=item19f353b42b

2. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-FABIA-MK1-1999-2007-FRONT-ELECTRIC-WINDOW-REGULATOR-LEFT-PASSENGER-SIDE-/111686319170?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Model%3AFabia|Cars+Type%3A1.9+TDI+RS&hash=item1a0105fc42

Is there anything else i will need?

Also crunching/crackling damaged the actual window??

Any help much appreciated

Thanks

Sounds like a window regulator has failed.

Basically it's a cable with wheels and cogs. The cable frays over time and splits until it fails, the noise you can hear is the damaged cable being dragged around the cogs and wheels.

The window glass should be fine as the cables don't touch is directly.

It's not a bad job, worst bit can be the rivits.

EDIT: as for the eBay adverts, the top one (cheaper one) is like a repair kit, you remove all the old damaged cables and fit them new ones.

The second one is the full regulator all built up, remove the old one, fit the new one, job done.

The choice is yours. I always buy and fit new regulators, the time taken faffing on with cables will end up doubling my labour charge so usually isn't worth it unless you have a free afternoon and want to play on fixing it yourself.

Cheers mate will buy the second one i saw on ebay (link 2), the complete unit.... your right less faffing about especially when i need to be on the road asap

These rivets you mention do you have a pictire or link of where i get them from? or do they come with the new regulator unit?

Thanks

I ordered a bag of them a while back, they are a weird size I remember that, the dealers sell them quite cheap, don't think you can get them at many other place, like a short rivit with a big head on them.

"They are 6.4mm standard length rivets. Part code is N91078801."

Jeez 10 rivets worked out £9.09 and 20 was roughly 13quid so went for 20...

I anticipate the drivers window will go next lol

Already had a seized calliper few weeks ago

Yeah it's the postage isn't it. I'm sure you'll need the other ten rivets soon enough :D

My drivers side electric window has lost its one touch function ... How can I reset this?

Hi I need to hijack this post. Is it best to drill the rivets out? I want to just get my window up then get the parts.

Thanks

It's the only way really, you can try removing the black caps from the carrier and removing the two 10mm bolts, this will undo the window glass so it's free to wedge up but that's about it.

Thanks. I have a drill and a riveter and a regulator so let's see how it goes.

Right two months after regulator fitted it has failed again!!! has this happened to anyone else :envy: ?

I bought it off eBay (bought £40)... Now I took it back to garage that fitted it and they believe its the clips on the mechanism that have failed, thankfully managed to pull the window up as it was only half way down.

I need a link/source of you peeps who have bought a decent reliable regulator, one that hasn't failed

the kicker is i now gotta buy new rivets what a pain in the backside!

Why don't you go to the breakers and get another regulator or just the whole panel. Had that with my 2001 fabia last year so I changed the whole panel and had no problems since.

See if that works!

What I bought was the whole frame/panel with regulator ... I might try another one on ebay, unless it was fitted incorrectly which I doubt as It wouldnt b working

Although I did notice in the last week or so opposite action, so if for example if I pressed up switch to put the window up it would go down slightly then up and freeze temporarily then wen I pressed up switch it went up as normal :/

I think they are the rivets to rivet the regulator to the door carrier.
