Funny story about my front suspension problems

Featured Replies

I bought a 2013 2.0 TDi Combi Elegance a couple of months ago from the dealer who had originally supplied the car to the first owner. In fact, the car was the dealer's demonstrator for a while and is pretty well loaded with extras. I had moved from a Ford Mondeo and found the ride to be "firm" on the Octavia, but thought this was largely due to the 18", low profile tyres. This vehicle had therefore been PDI'd by the dealer, and, presumably checked twice again when it was sold to the 2 owners, including me. I read lots of threads about the ride quality on this forum and the subject of transport blocks, but thought that surely it would not apply to my car. It niggled me, however,  so I just jacked it up today and was staggered to find the blocks in place on both sides. The ride is transformed, as you would expect when you get another 4" of suspension/damper movement. I will be bringing this to the attention of my dealer and look forward to their excuses....

Please share their excuses here with us :)

Can you check without jacking up and taking the wheel off?

You don't take the wheel off but you have to jack the car up so the suspension extends. Look inside the rubber gaiter and there they are, easily popped out without tools. If it is so easy I wonder why the dealers are failing to do it?..

Try turning the wheel on full lock and you should be able to get your hand up to the plastic gaiter & lift it.  there will either be a shiny silver shaft  or donuts of rubber

Pure laziness.  People don't take pride in their work anymore.  It all started going down hill when people stopped wearing ties & dust coats in the workshop
