Ctek 3.800 battery conditioner and cigarette lighter

Featured Replies

Hi friends. Just bought a battery mantainer. Does anybody use it connected to the cigarette lighter plug? Any risk of electronic damages?

I have done this with a Fabia I and an Octavia II, and will do it with my Yeti when the need arises. I have a CTEK MXS 5.0.

Many thanks for your answer. Was a bit worried about overheating cigarette plug and fry some electronic stuff

I have owned one for 4 yrs to keep a caravan battery in good order. It developed an intermittent fault recently so I sent it back to the shop. Within the week I had a brand new one as a replacement.

http://www.eurobatt.co.uk/chargers/ctek-chargers/12-volt-chargers/ were the shop. At the time they were also the best price.

I've used an Accumate since 2000.  Firstly I had it on my Volvo V40 from 2000 until 2011 and the battery was still going very strong when I handed it on to my son.. He had the same battery for further 2 years.  I then used it on my Yeti from when I purchased it new in February 2011 until I sold it in May this year.  Battery as good as new when car sold.  I also have one on my old lawn tractor which I only use now and again and the battery on that is about 7 years old and still going strong.  I highly recommend them.

Been using a CTEK 7.0 for some years now - incredible piece of kit.  Batteries always in perfect condition as a result - though I've always connected them straight to the battery.

Interested in the replies to this - never thought of using the cigarette lighter.  Always assumed there was a risk of damaging electronics.

I've got a ctek, though only use it on the motorbikes (the cars are used many times a week so there's no need).

I've fitted each of them with ctek comfort indicators so I know if/when I need to connect the charger at a glance. It would be easy to connect one of these to the car battery (my local Skoda dealer does this for all the cars in the showroom).

This issue of safety, charging via the lighter socket, was discussed a few months ago and I think it was Graham who said he uses a ctek to charge via the lighter socket.

I use a C-tek as I don't do much milage if I am not Towing.

No sign of any problems but the Yeti "Hal" doesn't talk to

me anymore :D
