Sat Nav Voice

Featured Replies

We used the sat nav for the second time yesterday and the voice on the sat nav did not work. First time we used it it worked OK.

Make sure you have not accidentally clicked the speaker icon at the bottom of the screen to mute the sound. Also try turning the radio volume up whilst the PID approaches a turning.

We checked the mute button on the screen, will try turning up volume next time we use it.

This ^ the amount of times I've muted the Satnav where I've gone to turn down the radio volume and the Satnav man has started speaking at that exact point

I can't get any voice out of my PID at all. Pain in the arse really. I have checked volume, radio mode, mute button and every single setting on the PID. WTH?

Should be under warranty so take it to the dealer :)

Does it mean it's broken then? It functions fine...

Try a reset, or as suggested above turn volume control knob up whilst sat nav voice is speaking.

Figured this one for you (sorry its taken a long time) this happened to me a few days ago, couldn't fathom it at all, what I did was whilst the engine was running and the PID was on I pressed the off button until the screen went blank, then took my finger off the off button and then pressed it to turn itself back on, it came up with the Skoda Logo and had 2 white loading boxes to the bottom right, it took a couple of minutes but fired back up afterwards and hey presto, the voice came back!

If you mute the voice guidance (which I often do) and then forget and set a route on the sat nav, I've found that the PID remains silent, whether you have the little speaker icon at the bottom edge of the screen pressed to on or mute. In other words, it ignores you. This also scuppers the voice control for phone dialling, as there's no "Telephone number or Phone Book?" announcement or the lovely BONG that follows it about half an hour after (by which time I'm usually shouting at the damn thing!)

It looks like it's a bug in the software to me. As you say, the only way I've found to shake it out of its mute state is a hard power off (hold the power button down for a few seconds).

Cheers for that ^ surprised there hasn't been an update, but if it's a problem no one's noticed or not bothered to complain about then it probably won't be resolved, just have to remember this in future :)

Had the same experience myself yesterday.  Had put in a new destination, & I reckon that I had inadvertently muted it, as the voice suddenly went AWOL.   Fiddled with it (for several life times, as I'm a complete technophobe) but in the end, I got the option to "restore to factory settings" and OK'd that.    SWMBO was clucking like a demented hen on Speed, but I messed around some more, and low-and-behold, the voice was back.   It does help if one looks at what they're trying to do, rather than jabbing with pork-sausaged sized fingers in just the general direction of an option, but Hey-Ho, lesson learned.  There isn't much that can't be solved by reverting to "factory settings" and setting off from Go again, we may not collect our "£200, but at least the gubbins again starts to do what it says on the tin.
