Soaking wet interior...

Featured Replies

The rear floor under the driver's seat in my Fabia vRS is soaking wet (as is the rubber mat and 'vRS' mat, currently drip drying in the kitchen  ). And the car now smells musty :( Used up one kitchen roll today trying to mop it up....

I've already had a 'fix' applied for this last time it rained hard 'properly' (about 5 months ago!), which was replacing some seal in the door or something (and the trim that was broken with the fix), apparently a 'known' problem (and there is a thread on here mentioning this).

Anyway it appears the water is somehow overwhelming the rubber seal, see the attached pictures, note the water on top and all around the seal. These were taken this afternoon - it had rained during the night but was dry all day - and after driving some 50 odd miles this morning.

I assume the rain leaks past the plastic trim and onto the carpet.

But how is it getting there? Is it coming from the door - perhaps it's full up of rain  All a mystery  Can't squirt it with the hose/pressure washer to see as there's a ban....

Anyone else had this? Car in Thursday, hope they have a scheme to dry it out and get rid of the pong as well as fix it...

Its coming in through the ancilleries carrier. Common fault.

Excuse my ignorance, what's that? Also does common fault mean there is a fix (that perhaps wasn't done properly last time?)

Thanks.

There is a bulletin on it. Has been a fault on Fabia since year dot. And hence the reason the carrier is now held on with rivets rather than 10mm bolts as they used to be.

I've attatched a piccie of what happens.

Water runs down the window and builds up in the bottom of the door. What should happen is the water should drain out of the holes and to the outside of the door seal. But as the carriers arent sealing properly instead the water runs out of the carrier (the red line) and out the bottom of the door card, onto the sill trim and into the car.

When it's been raining, my fabia door takes a pee when you open it. So I guess the water does accumulate when in wet weather. Do the holes in the bottom of the door not vent when the door is closed? Would explain why the massive dripping as soon as you open the door.

I noticed this with mine too. There does appear to be an unhealthy accumulation of water in the door. Left overnight, it drains when the door is opened, I worry that if the car is left in the rain for several days, the level might go up high enough to leak in past the door card.

Also, after standing in the rain, the car seemed to accumulate a lot of water somewhere else, central and near the front of the vehicle which ran out when I drove off. Seemed to be getting on for half to one litre. (The rain had stopped an hour or so before I drove, then the sun dried the road. I went down the road to turn around wheich was when I noticed the trail I had left).

Do hope I dont end up with a soggy car.

Chris

It cant go past the door card if the carrier is sealed.

The water will drain out if the door is closed as the drain holes are on the outside edge of the door skin. Its just when you move the door in opening it the last bits are swished out.
