Too much smoke...

Featured Replies

My car smokes quite badly all of the time, and it's really annoying me, when I first bought it 12 months ago, it was fine, a bit of smoke here and there. Summer came and I thought WTF, is my car on fire... I put it down to the hot weather, but it still persists on being terrible on much colder October days! :thumbdwn:

I run it on Shell diesel, I've tried changing the fuel to expensive stuff for 3 or 4 tankfuls and it makes no difference! :thumbdwn:

I've changed the air filter to a green filter and back again to a brand new skoda part, put a cupra pipe on and taken it off, NONE of it makes a difference! :thumbdwn:

What gets my back up even more is that, my uncle has a golf GTI (PD150) and it doesn't smoke at all, it's done more miles too! My old Citroen Xantia 1.9TD with 284,000 miles on the clock smoked less!:thumbdwn:

Is there anything else I can try, before I get rid of it for something less smokey!

Has your car been remapped or has it an anologue/digital box?? This can cause excessive smoking!

If none to the above, maybe a visit to the dealer is required. Diesels smoke, that's thier nature but it shouldn't be excessive though

Seems like it's a bit of a hit and miss on this, some cars are known to be smokey, others arent. And that's with the 'same' engine, all PD130s.

Doesn't Skoda now fit some form of particulate filter to some of the diesels, which IIRC gets rid of a lot of the smoke?

Does it smoke all the time, or just under hard acceleration? Have you noticed any performance problems and what's your fuel economy like?

Could it be a faulty MAF if the engine is always overfueling?

Chris

You uncles PD 150 Golf will have a down turned exhaust, makes alot of difference.

I tended to notice it more in the winter months as its darker and the smoke is more obvious in peoples headlights.

Its a diesel, it smokes. If your concerned ask your local friendly MOT station to do an opacity test.

Have to agree if this matches you a faulty maf is favourite. Speak to euro carparts. Dam sight cheaper than skoda just need your engine code.

Does it smoke all the time or, just under hard acceleration... that's the same thing, isn't it?

No seriously, it does smoke pretty much all the time, not when I'm keeping at steady speed on the dual, but even with the slightest of touches on the trottle, you feel you need to put your rear fog lights on! :thumbdwn:

Performance is fine, mpg is averaging over 50, on a recent 75 mile trip I average 73.1mpg!

I have both pd130 and pd150 the 130 does seem to smoke more but still not much as to be a problem. The 150 is very clean running and not a hint of smoke for a diesel

Try not to look in the mirror!
