HELP PLEASE car problems

Featured Replies

OK i have posted on two citroen forums so i thought i would give you guys a go.

So i have a citroen NO my wife has a citoen synergie 2.0 Petrol this evening it has just started stalling all the time every time you pull up the engine cuts out but apart from that it drives ok. ANY help please.

sounds like theres some junk/dirt in the carb blocking it when the engine is idleing

I had that on a Scooby i had a few years ago

We just took the carbn off and blasted the junk out with an airjet

Could be as simple as a blocked air filter. But could be something as sinister as knackered rings. Sorry I can't be of more assistance! :o

Are there any more sympoms? Is it using more fuel? Oil consumption? Does it always start first time?

The engine managment light came on the first time it cut out and after the restart it went out there was also smell of petrol after the restart.

I would suggest you get the throttle position potentiometer output checked out at idle. They sometimes play up when the throttle is closed. Products of contact wear build up at the idle position.

I'd assume it was fuel injected rather than carb'd if there's an engine management light.

I'd look at ECU fuelling and fuel lines to begin with.

I've had 2 Vauxhalls that both did this. It was usually the Crankshaft speed sensor or the Oxygen sensor. Do you have a Code reader? You can get them in Halfords for less than

I had this on my 1996 Peugoet 306 Xsi with the 2.0l engine...It drives okay but as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator pedal it cuts out and wouldn't idle unless you keep the gas.

If this is is the same engine as in your Citroen then your problem is more than likely to be the idle stepper motor. This is basically an electrically operated air-bleed valve fitted to the throttle housing. When you take your foot off the throttle, the valve is supposed too 'open' and allow air into the engine. If its faulty it doesn't allow air into the engine and the engine stalls as soon as you close the throttle (when you take your foot off the pedal). It costs about
