To sell or not to sell? 1969 Skoda

Featured Replies

Hi all

finally after 6months got round to putting pictures up of my classic Skoda on here....

Its a 1969 Skoda 1100MB in De Luxe trim - quite rare, though not as much as an 1000MBX or 1000MBG

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/359107-skoda-1100mb-from-1969-in-near-perfect-condition/

I'm undecided whether to sell it or not.  Its an absolute joy to drive and in near perfect condition but I'm moving out of my parent's house soon and there's no way I'll have space for it at my new place.  I'd have to leave it in their garage but it'll be 50km away.  Another 'problem' is my daily driver is now over 10 years old and could do with replacing so any extra cash would help.  This, combined with the fact I spend about 6months in Slovakia and 6months in the UK over the course of a year got me thinking whether to sell it.

Any ideas if such a car is sought after in the UK?  I know how much I'd like to get for it but don't know how realistic it is (around £6000).  Any ideas?  I could borrow a car trailer from my brother's work and deliver it to the UK for a fee.  As Slovakia is in the EU there would be no problem re-registering it.  All the paper work is present and its got an MOT.

What do you think....keep or sell?

If you decide to sell it maybe pay for the right to advertise it on Briskoda forum.

s'ok classics get a exception. The amount of time and energy they need, I like classics too, it's the least I can do and Tom told me :P

Is it to sell or not. As a potential buyer of something pre 95 I personally am looking for a challenge but not a headache. Only you can decide if you want to sell it.

It's a lovely example and thats another issue for me, I'm not 100% I can maintain a good example. That is I'm after soemthign with a bit of work/ rust so my shoddy care skills can be enhanced and not at the expense of the perfect example.

So I guess if you decide to sell it, you must also find the right buyer.

I'll have a think and put it in classifieds.  Didn't realise I need to pay for advertising, sorry...this was by no means an attempt to get free advertising for my car....just presumed like on the Land Rover forum its free after 50posts.  I have no problem paying...please could someone guide me how to pay?

Cheers

Sorry, my bad,

i had no idea as ColinD has corrected me that you do not need to pay to advertise a classic.

A lovely looking car.

I would imagine it holds some very fond memory's, both driving it and maintaining it.

Personally my vote would be to keep it and continue enjoying it for years to come.

However if I was in a position to be able to buy it I'd say sell it!

I'd rather borrow money to fund a new modern / daily car and keep this little gem locked away for special occasions such as dry weekends   :sun:

I'm sure your folks won't mind housing it for you.

In all seriousness how rare are cars of this type in this condition? Would Skoda not be interested in it for their museum?

That's basically true but ONLY within the classifieds part of the Classics section.

If you'd like it in the main classifieds then the main rules apply.

Hi all.... I've payed and listed it in the classic classifieds with full details and more pics :)  Just waiting for a moderator to approve it.

Moderators: please could you also put it into the main classifieds for me?

Thanks

BTW...if anybody wants/needs part for an old Skoda let me know and I'll try and help you.  I live in Slovakia and have dual citizenship (British/Slovak).  Slovak is almost the same language as Czech (after all it was Czechoslovakia once upon a time) since Skodas were and still are made here there are parts lying about all over the place (metaphorically speaking).  Alternatively, if you want an old car I can import one to the UK for you!  There's currently a gorgeous 1968 Skoda Octavia Estate I've seen online (in white) which needs a tiny bit of work but has an MOT and paperwork.

However, I'd like to say that I am in no way involved in the motor trade  :)  So this is really a hobby for me with a little bit of pocket money.  And as my brother has a car trailer I can even deliver it to the UK for you.

Cheers

I've approved and moved it to the main classifieds plus left a link in the classics classifieds pointing to it. You're not able to have the same sale thread in multiple sections as it could cause confusion.
