Octane Boosters

Featured Replies

Thought I'd try an Octane Booster so purchased some NOS Octane Booster.

Apparently raises RON rating by 2-3......car felt a lot smoother and pulled more linearly. At

dont know the answers but i have been thinking about the same sort of thing since the recent hike in optimax and bp ultimate prices.

i've put a tank full of standard bp unleaded and the cars different already.

anyone use a booster on a regular basis?

i would have thought the millers "deposits" would ultimately damage or affect the turbo and engine in time with prolonged use.

I have a company fuel card even though I own my car (strange car allowance scheme), we are not allowed to fill up with 98 (unless we do so out of our own pocket, not really going to happen !) I'd be very interested in an octane booster that you could put in every tankful.

Do you have any links regarding the magnesium deposit problem with millers?

I've been running Optimax with Millers Octane+ for quite some time now with no noticable problems but if there's potential for a problem I'd like to know.

Jap import Scooby drivers regularly put a dose of Millers in with each tank of fuel to raise the RON to 100 (equivalent to the Jap-spec fuel). Never heard of any long term effects, even on high mileage cars.

Isn't your car mapped for a specific octane of fuel, Adrian?

Chris, yes mapped for Optimax but thought I would give it a go to see. ;)

i wasnt thinking about running optimax + a booster but a normal unleaded with a booster to give the same if not slightly higher octane rating of the optimax etc.

i suppose it depends what the cost difference in normal and "super" unleaded is compared to the cost of adding the millers or whatever.

Hardly conclusive then but intersting all the same.

You'll be mapped for Optimax but you may still have a small amount of timing retard so the Octane booster will help. I've gone through about 3 boxes of millers using 1 per tank and the benefits are noticable, especially if your car is mapped for it or you adjust the timing yourself with a program like lemmiwinks or Custom-Settings.

Agree...hence the thread.

Seems to be loads of people who have tried but no kind of testing...well that I can find anyway.

Well I've done in the region of 10k with constant use of millers and the turbo pretty much maxxed. The car still runs sweet and also seems to feel better everytime I drive it, certainly no decline in performance that's for sure.

Millers Octane+ is designed to be used in every tank, however other products in their range such as CVL Turbo is for occasional use and makes this very clear on the packaging.

any links for suppliers?

You can buy direct from millers on their website but you may get a better deal negotiating with a local supplier.

its probably a bit of negative thinking on my part... to use normal unleaded only saves around

Millers works as I've confirmed this by logging with vagcom. You do need a map to suit to get the best but you can do this yourself (for timing at least) with a serial vagcom cable and lemmiwinks or Custom-Settings.

I'd look to be paying a bit less than that. Aim for under

I found somewhere which did the box of 10 for approx

When I ran the dreaded Scoob I always used NF as at the time it was getting rave revues, They did a one shot which was one bottle per tank.

Havent used it for nearly 3 years so not sure if NF is still around

Millers do a pack of 10 for
