Engine light on dash

Featured Replies

engine light came on during my drive to work this morning.

there doesnt seem to be anything happening regarding performance or noise but the service indicator has gone past its 1000 mile count down.

the car is booked in for a service but not till the 11th of November.

is this light on purely for the service timer being past or should i worry?

i dont have vag-com so cant run any checks myself.

visit the dealer?

I think the service timing is just co-incidental, i could be wrong, but worth getting hooked up to vag com for a diagnosis. I'll put a

anyone know if a dirty MAF would cause this engine light with no other apparent effects?

or maybe the sensor on the inlet manifold just past the throttle body?

i'm thinking maybe one of the sensors is dirty and needs cleaning following the problem i had the other night where half the cars power dissappeared for half the drive home until the engine was shut down / restarted.

Sorry to jump in on this one but my light came on just as I came home this evening. The service indicator has been registering for a while now, 37,579 on the clock, as you can see I'm close to 40k service.

When my local dealer checked on his computer he quoted 40k as next service, around next Feb/March time.( about

i still think mine is in some way related to the power loss i experienced a week ago where the boost seemed to half and the induction noise was much louder. i put that down to the fact i couldnt hear the turbo as much which normally over powers the noise of the induction kit.

i'm planning a good clean of the inlet sensors and maf at the weekend.

i'll let you know how it goes.

Found out my problem with help from local VW dealer. 1 fault / 16502 / engine coolant temp. circuit high. From reading past threads, sounds like a regular fault. VW dealer was excellent, dropped in at 17.15pm, coffee and 10 mins later I had my answer and NO cHARGE! Skoda and VW run by same motor group, VW 1/2 mile from house and Skoda 17 miles away in Norwich. I have to take to Skoda to fix as they should have parts in stock.

If its shutting down until you reset the ignition it sounds like a 17705 fault. Been covered a fair bit on here.

Get it checked out.
