Octavia VRS - 2.0T Petrol (Performance queries)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm in the need of changing my car and am looking for something slightly bigger than a standard compact sedan / hatch. Therefore, the Mk III Octavia VRS (petrol, 220 bhp) is under my radar as the GTi is just a tad too small in terms of rear legroom and boot space.

Now, I have some questions regarding this car and will appreciate if someone can provide some feedback.

- I'm also considering other midsize sedans that are somewhat in similar price / performance category. One is the Honda Accord V6 (with 276 bhp). Can anyone advise how does the Accord V6 compare with the Octy VRS in terms of day-to-day performance i.e. off the line (0-100 kph), in gear etc? In gear I guess the Octy will eat the accord, but not too sure off the line. This is something I'm just curious about. I read somewhere that the Accord V6 is almost as quick as a BMW 328i off the line so wanted to see how the Octy performs in comparison.

- I understand that the Octavia is longer than a Golf / Gti, however, can anyone please confirm if the Octy is wider too? or are the width of the two cars the same?

Unfortunately since I'm away for work for a while I wont be able to test out the above first hand so wanted to do some preliminary research.

Thanks and appreciate your comments!

Not sure what the current accord is like but look and see if it still uses variable valve timing.  If it still does then it may be quite down on power until the revs climb moderately high.  My experience of one from a decade ago (so possibly totally unlike todays car) was this.  Reason was it used oil pressure to rotate the cam and alter the timing, at low revs, low oil pressure you had little power but good economy.  I thought it unpleasant to drive though, high revs in the right gear were essential if you wanted the power.
