bottom end knock?

Noticed a new sound coming from under the bonnet.. its only coming from the top left of the engine bay I've gotten underneath amd can't really hear it...

I know I have a leaky injector if that makes any difference as my sump keeps filling with diesel.

I've tried listening to it being reved... sounds like it gets faster with revs

its coming from the turbo side its not a boost leak is it?

Don't think so mate... is the turbo outlet on that side? I'm still getting 1.5bar boost according to my gauge

If you're leaking diesel into the sump, that's diluting your lubricating oil, and that could mean that you're starting to run big ends or mains.

So get the oil changed and get the injector seals done and hope there's no lasting damage?

PD's wreck their top ends before any bottom end damage can occur, I'd crack the rocker cover off and take a look at the cam and followers first.

I also get pretty bad engine shake on my engine at idle if that makes a difference

Unless I sell the golf this month I'll probs give it a miss on the cam this month unless it desperately needs doing.

Is it a job for a diyer? I reckon I'd get it done if I could find a decent guide but there's nothing about unless anyone knows otherwise

I think you may be having a mental aberration, there are no low-mileage PD lumps out there due to the age of the engine.

 

Replacing cam and followers is not expensive or difficult compared to an engine swap, putting a petrol 1.8T in a diesel car is both expensive AND very difficult.

 

Stay on target, fix the car or just sell it before it goes bang.
