Which coilovers?

Featured Replies

I've had my vrs since January now and after getting all the wee niggly bits and bobs sorted and an engine remap, I've finally saved the money to start the improve.

Having spoken to a few mechanics they recommended getting some coilovers and some polypro bushes on the front. I'm after some recommendations for the coilovers. Who's had good experiences with what?

I will be interested in this thread :)

I had eibach springs with koni fsd initially on my first mk2 vrs -  took those off, the koni's were utter rubbish.  replaced that with weitec hicon gt coils.  very good coilover for the money, effectively the same as a KW V1 but without the galvanised body.  n.b. these are now sold as "ST by KW".  AP coils are simiilar spec and cheaper again - ride is pretty close to stock.  these are twin tube design.

my second mk2 vrs had bilstein b16's initially, fantastic quality but over sprung for my tastes, would have been great on track but not so great for a high miles road car.  i replaced these with H&R monotubes.  Great quality, superb ride quality too - better than stock, lots of adjustability - you could go really low with these if you wanted.  J0Hn also got a set of these based on my recommendation to replace his B14s (same issue as i had on the b16s - the springs are just to stiff for the octy imho).

Ref bushes - go with superpro bushes (or ALK) on the front, or go with the S3 bushes as these are cheap and oem.  If you're doing that also would recommend the H&R rear anti-roll bar at the same time, for £200-ish it's really worth it -makes a massive difference.

ALK+H&R coils+H&R Rarb is a great setup.

i did a write up some time back - search "chassis upgrade" it'll come up.
