Suspicions Confirmed

Hi all,

When I first bought my car it was the most powerful I had owned. After someone I knew spoke to the previous owner they had said that he had it remapped. Since then I have always thought it was more powerful than it should be. He also had a pipercross filter fitted. Anyway, today I have had my car on the rolling road and the map checked for any issues. Upon receiving the map I was shocked to see how much it was putting to the wheels on a stage 1 map. I had always guessed at around 240bhp. The place I took it to said that the map was of good quality and the power level is what they would of expected.

In the future I might go stage 2 and gain about 20-30bhp. Or if I grow some balls might go K04.

Thanks

Is that "at the wheels" or extrapolated at the flywheel?

195kw at the wheels seems an awful lot for a stage1.  The 166kw ATW looks about right though.  Nice torque figure too.

Something wrong with that graph.  Power (in hp) is always numerically equal to torque (in ft.lb) at 5252 revs.  On the posted graph the cross over point is at 4610 rev.  Rolling roads actually measure torque at the wheels, a fiddle factor added to compensation for loses between engine and wheels and then a conversion is calculated to provide the power figure.

From that graph the torque at 5252 revs would yield a hp of 200.

Does your insurance know if you didn't?

you might not be covered.

It is not an issue, most dyno's scale it back to fit on a graph. Compare the left to the right.

Thanks for that.  You are of course correct - the hp and torque are both about 250 at 5252 revs.  The different scales throw me.

I don't know about the UK but down here the rule is that the insured is only expected to make disclosure on what they know about. (You can only know what you know).  Now that he knows it's been remapped he's legally obliged to make it known but before this he was covered.
