Used Octavia 2 2011

Featured Replies

Hi,

I just recently bought a used Octavia 2 2011 1.4TSI SE. As a new owner, I have a couple of questions please:

  1. I have noticed that the air conditioning isn't very cold when on. It doesn't have climate control - just the AC button and a hot/cold dial. The temperature changes from hot to cold when rotating the dial, and all the vents seem to be blowing, but when set to the coldest, it's not very cold at all. In fact, hardly any difference compared to not having it "on". What do you think? Regas? The used car came with a 6 month warranty, so if it's something other I guess it'd be covered.
  2. Cam belt. When do I get it changed? At the next service (4 years) or later? The car has done hardly any miles for it's age (< 25000).
  3. If I want to buy a little electronic jobby to plug in and look at faults, are there any recommendations from people?

Thanks for any input. So far, I am very impressed with the car.

1 - start with a regas yep

2 - pass, check the manual

3 - get a Bluetooth or wifi obd2 reader from eBay for a fiver and an app for your phone

the  1.4TSi  has a timing chain and does not need changing unless it has stretched or is becoming noisy

Excellent, thanks. Just ordered one off eBay.

In other news, I think the 1.4 TSI is chain driven, so hopefully don't need to worry about replacing it. Why on earth do they use belts at all? Seems ridiculous.
