*Miser tip* Don't buy repair wires

Featured Replies

I have seen posts of people struggling to find repair wires. Do yourself a favour, go to a scrapyard and cut up a loom. Lots of the plugs have the facility to release the wires from the side, if not a hammer to the plastic does the job. Insane prices on ebay

Scrooge would be proud, Chris, so long as you get your donkey to take you to the scrappers. .

Well I have seen posts saying dealers didn't even know what they were, thought it may help someone.

Not sure just which wires you're referring to but my dealer could supply repair wires no problem, what they struggled with was getting individual terminals (so you can put your own wires in to a new connector).

These are what I got for the door warning lights.

I saw a post a few days back saying someone had problems with their dealer refusing to accept repair wires existed. I am going to fit door warning lights so thats handy thanks :D

Only trouble with second hand wires are they get brittle quicker, especially in places where they flex such as door and boot shuts, but I have used them before just to keep things colour coded as they would have been in the factory. ;)

I have reused old loom wires several times with no issues but the repair wires are cheap from the dealer. Even if they dont know what they are, you can ususlly get by giving the part number eg 000 979 009 or 000 979 133.

No probs.

It's a regular thing, the OEM lights don't actually give any warning to traffic until the door is opened quite some way. That's why I fitted these in the edge...

Under a tenner to do both sides.

I had planned to put them into the door frame, but Mike Holroyd suggested using the trim, that way it saved having to remove the panel at all. Quick & simple. Cheers Mike

I already have one half red half white light and was going to buy another, I saw a youtube video where he tapped into the door controller to get them working then switched on in vcds. Thought it was worth a go.
