Smart link worth it?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Nice to be back on the boards. My 07 VRS is being traded in for a shiny new 184PS Scout. I decided to splash out on the Columbus, but didn't go for the Smartlink option largely because the salesman didn't really rate it. However, it seems from browsing these forums that it may allow Apple Carplay functionality which would be pretty cool. Has Carplay been confirmed for Skoda and would I need Smartlink to get it?

Probably not too late to get it fitted before the car gets built...

I thought it was standard on the MIB2 Columbus now on Scout spec?

According to the brochure it is a £150 upgrade on all models. The Columbus now has some Wifi functionality, but that seems to allow the sharing of data from a tethered smartphone.

Fair enough.

To answer your original question, yes and yes, Smartlink provides Android Auto, MirrorLink and Apple Carplay functionality.

I think so. To me it's like upgrading a phone every couple years. You get the newest tech and software. In comparison, the sat nav on my current car hasn't changed in the 7 years I have owned it. With Smartlink the screen on the car is just to display the newest software and not dependent on how old the car is.

Thanks for the responses. I have done some digging and downloaded the latest brochure - it turns out the Smartlink is included with the Columbus upgrade.
