Air conditioning, does it work at settings 1 & 2?

Hi again all,

I've never noticed this before on my Fabia but today as it was hot and the car had been sitting in the sun i put the a/c on but i had to turn the fan to position 3 or 4 for the a/c switch to light up. I'm certain it worked on positions 1 & 2 before or did i imagine that?

Is this normal or is there some sort of issue brewing?

I'm pretty certain it does but come to think of it over the winter i did think that i was having to use 3 or 4 more often than 1 or 2

It's quite a common thing to fail.

 

In your case, if your blower doesn't work on 1 and 2 without the a/c on then that's probably what it is. They also commonly fail on position 1 only too.

Check to see if the blower works on 1 and 2. If it doesn't it will be the heater resistor which is a common failure. My air-con didn't work on speed 1. I then noticed with engine off (but ignition on) the fan wasn't working, but was on 2,3 and 4. I changed the resistor and it now works

Just checked, 1 and two aren't working, that explains it.

If you don't know when it was changed, "do" your pollen filter too. As reduced flow over the resister is one way of killing it.

Very true   The resistor relies on good air flow to cool it.
