Octavia Mk1 1.8 Cruise control

Featured Replies

Hello, i have an Mk1 Octavia '98 with 1.8 AGN engine. I was wondering if cruise control can be retro-fitted on the car. The information I found was controversial. I would be grateful if you could support me.

Cruise certainly can be retro fitted, but it's not a job for the total novice.

Lots of discussion on it here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/200897-retrofit-cruise-control/

And i'm pretty sure there's a guide on this forum somewhere but can't find it (try googling site:briskoda.net Octavia cruise control retrofit or something similar).

iirc you can find companies that will do it for you for under £200 all in.

Thanks for the quick reply. I know it can be retrofitted, but what I found is that not all engines can be retrofitted. I as far as I know, I need to have an electronic throttle, and maybe my AGN type engine has a wire one. That's why I was asking is there a workaround to that situation.

I found these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Waeco-MS-50-Cruise-Control/dp/B0000WPNLE

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cruise-Control-Ap60-Diy-Vacuum-Actuator-Automatic-Universal-Fit-/251487481199?

No idea if they're any good or not though, but I don't think I'd bother fitting one myself. Seem to be more popular with the Yanks and Aussies than over here.

I used these guys recently for my VW van http://www.oemretrofits.co.uk/

they suplied a left hand drive loom that had to be modified but it works like a dream - I got someone else to fit it though

They only list cars with electronic throttle...

ah, sorry, didn't look too deeply other than to see they had Skoda listed.

The aftermarket ones seem a bit unreliable to me. After all, the computer is capable to do that, it's just a matter of fitting things together. I think the cable throttle can be fitted with a vacuum pump for the tempomat, but I haven't found info on the internet how that works exactly :(
