vrs smoke under load....

Featured Replies

Hi a friend of mine has a Fabia vRS that smokes a little under load. i.e. setting off, going up hill. and accelerating in a high gear. It was recently serviced and has never used a drop of oil. I checked it before and after a 300+ mile round trip and the oil never moved on the dipstick.

Apparently its been doing it for 6-8 months and when I serviced it I made sure it had correct oil put in the engine.

Any help or pointing in the right direction would be a great help as i'm stumped............

Thanks in advance

I bumped 'Sharkrider' smoking thread since i could not link it.

Car just running rich when cold. and then cleaning the soot from the pipes.

Not a worry.

Thanks but It has been doing it for a while though, is that still right?

Mine does it all the time if it is not being booted often enough.

So when i have it it gets a thrash before getting parked up.

5 Year old car with 50,000 miles.

'Smoking is not Harmful to the life of a Twincharger'.

So what is your friends car, a CAVE or CTHE,

& what about yours, and does your car never puff out smoke?

It's a CAVE it's modified but he only boots it once in a while.

Can't say I've ever notice mine smoking to be honest.

Thanks for the help he was thinking the turbo or supercharger Ware faulty even though I told him the smoke would be a lot worse if it was the turbo.

Again thanks for the help.

What colour smoke?

Black is probably over-fuelling.

Blue, repeat blue in odd puffs is oil, probably from valve stem seals or ring flutter, and won't use enough to measure.

White (or light grey) may be time to worry about HGF or turbo seal failure, but if the turbo seals go the consumption will rocket to litres per mile (l/m).

Ken,

it is a 1.4 TSI Twincharger 132-136kw minimum, 2009-2012 engine,

capable of over 50 mpg, and as low as 11 mpg depending on use.

Normal Motor Engineering Practice & Theory does not apply, Black Soot from a CAVE Engine is not an issue,

even when they were brand new.

Or replacements now being fitted.  Perfectly Built New Engines and Engine Management,

even ones with new Cats, or Replacement Upgrade Exhausts.

they do smoke a bit ;) usually after a very gentle drive when you decide to boot it....

Sounds like yours is a duffer too George - Best drop that brand manager an email  :p

There's one or two threads knocking around on the forum; have a read up on the twincharger oil consumption subject. Check the updates have been done and get your squirters changed  :D

Uses no oil, puts out 200+ BHP and can do more than 50 mpg at 70 mph..

I think i will stick to the kind of Squirters i prefer.

Smokey CAVE and even CTHE are not a problem.

it was a joke you miserable sod  :notme:

:sun:

I knew it was.

Watch for those that run lean at the wrong time, VW tried that MAP for a while to sort the Engine Management issues,

it failed, and it is no joke.

Bump for a new member.

A search brings up several more threads on Smokey vRS from 2011-2014.

Oil spots on the rear of the car is different from oily spots from soot particles.

Sorry to derail the thread slightly and sorry if it's mentioned elsewhere but i can't find it, but GoneoffSKion1 what mods have you done to your car to be getting that MPG and BHP?

A Stage 1 MAP (APR) Switchable MAP.

DENSO Spark Pugs.

Clean Standard Air Filter.

Good 5w 40 Full Synthetic Oil. (Not Castrol 5w 30)

215/40 R 17 All Season Tyres.

Tesco Momentum 99 ron petrol.

Ballast weights removed from the rear crash bar.

Use 'D' mostly, & 'S' only to decelerate and stay off the brakes.  Saves fuel for when you want to have fun and do 22 mph or so.

22mph - not much fun... :D

Aha i appreciate it, i'll have a look at the APR upgrade once the warranty is gone!

Did you alter your spark plugs for it at all?

22mph - not much fun... :D

I do also have to second this  :notme:

Ok cool, mines actually a CAVE though, have there been any issues remapping them?

I take it the DSG copes fine as well?

Is yours a CAVE and how long have you had it mapped?

Anything of note that you've noticed?

Just read the engine death forum. . .

Maybe i'll leave it!

Maybe best until you see your engine and DSG is all well, and no Warranty work is required.

Then fill your boots.

Find out your cars Service and Warranty History from Skoda UK Customer Services.

EDIT.

This is a good Project Build Thread for getting more go without a Remap.

TMC or Bluespark Boxes work OK.

The Project Section for Fabias is worth looking through.
