Water fording/wading

The skoda rapid sold in India is a sedan version based on the vw polo. Its different from the version that's sold in europe.

Its sold with a 1.5tdi(smaller version of the 1.6tdi) out putting the same 105ps and 25nm of torque with the dq200 7 speed dsg. VW/Skoda have designed this engine specifically for india due to our taxation structure.

How many of you have driven your TDI dsg in not too deep flood water?

I was with a friend in his tdi dsg during the last big rain spell that happened a couple of weeks back here in bombay.

We were driving on a road which was flooded but not deep. A lot of cars were wading through it without any problems.

When my friend drove thru it, the car was initially fine but later started making some very loud noise like a machine gun sound from under the hood. It was intermittent, would come and go only when in water.

We both got very scared at that point. Though touch wood his car drives fine when I checked with him yesterday.

I was searching for something like this online but could not find one.
