aftermarket head unit advice

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I've just purchased a fabia Vrs SE and one of my first jobs is to change the head unit, the multi changer doesn't appear to be working so not fussed about that side of things

I need bluetooth capability too as I use the car for work and this would really help.

I've seen the Alpine UTE-72BT for sale at Halfords for £70 which looks reasonable. It has no Cd but I think I can live with that as I use Google play to download music these days

Has anyone used one of these head units?

Also, is the fabia facia replacement still available at Skoda or will the Halfords one do? ( I've heard its crap)

Cheers

If its a single din stereo then all you need is skoda part number 6Y0857231B41 about £4 from skoda dealer or £7 from ebay

Do you happen to know the part number for a geniune facia to accompany a double din?

Cheers

That is also all you need, the hole can be a double din if you remove the cubby hole or storage tray

If you intend to use the radio at all, you'll need a booster.

Do I need anything else other than the facia and booster?

A harness for example, I'll be getting an Apline head unit by the looks of it

Nope just a fascia and booster. The harness that comes with the stereo will plug straight into the iso plugs of the fabia. Just remember, if the radio loses settings every time the ignition is turned off, swap over the red and yellow wires of the included radio harness.

Thanks for the advice everyone, finished installation this weekend by attaching the aeriel signal booster and wiring the mic behind the glove box and back through the roof lining into the vanity light, was about an hours work but worth it as it's completely hidden
