Went to my local TPS, in Hampshire, the other day to get some bits. Been going there for the last few years - no problems getting a cash sale over the counter, receiving the usual discount.

 

When matey gave me the bill this time though, I thought it looked a bit heavy.

 

When I questioned him, he said that VAG had told them all to stop giving routine over the counter discounts, and that now in order to receive the trade price, you have to set up a trade account and buy parts with a full purchase order on account, as a recognised trader.

 

So - if you want to use TPS and get the discount, I suppose you'll have to at least set up some kind of company! Up to you though, to bother with such subterfuge.

 

Oh well...back to Euros and GSF I guess :(

not being in uk i could buy from them anyway - ecp or micksgarage have been my usual outside of dealer buying locations, depending on what im buying ecp is only 10 quid for roi shipping so still

Works out cheap esp if you order loads if stuff in one go.

The last few times ive tried TPS for parts they have quoted me the same prices as my local dealer. I had wondered why, but now I know.

If you use facebook join the octavia vrs owners club. Chap on there works for tps and can help out, usually posting the stuff to you.

I'm on my own cash account there, but I think it runs through my mate whose's admin in the Cardiff branch.

They'll stop selling to the public next. I believe some branches have been doing this for a while. The manager at my local TPS is an old school mate of mine but I'm not sure how much say he'll have on the matter.

Really it's all stupid. I get that they want to deflect people into paying for dealer parts, but the sort of people who know about/use TPS regularly aren't going to do that, they'll rely on the scrap market or pattern parts / ECP etc instead, so it just loses business.

 

Joe Bloggs doesn't know about TPS, doesn't use them anyway and buys mark up stealer prices to begin with so no difference.

I can understand everyone being fed up, but the clue is in the company name - 'Trade Parts Specialists'. They exist to supply The Trade - most are Independent garages (IMTs) and specialists, who supply on to us. They never were there to serve us. Just count ourselves lucky that we've got away with trade - like or 'Taxi' discounts until now.
