TPS now being tightarses - bye bye discounted genuine parts...

Featured Replies

I used my local TPS about a month ago and still got (IIRC) 10% off.

We have a discount account now.

Skoda vrs is the account

It's for the people that know it exists. It's not been done through briskoda.

So still as cryptic.

What not post details of who can join and how to go about it?

So the chances are you rock up using that account name and they still tell you to do one then.

NO, they're there to make a profit --just like everyone else-----just trying to get by

TPS are owned by VW UK who have told them to stop giving the trade discount to the general public. TPS exists to support the indy trade and franchised dealers with a parts department might not have been chuffed by their prices being essentially undercut by the people supplying them with the parts(?)

I used TPS but not because they apparently give discount. I go there because they have most things in stock and cuts out the 24hr wait if I go to a dealer. Prices were reasonable anyway for genuine parts.

I have never used them and am unlikely to, whilst being well aware that VW are the owners,  I was unaware that in reality they were a corporate philanthropic gesture to the "sub carriage trade" .  Wether this is a move from spite or greed is debatable, but you can bet if it was unprofitable it would be Rationalised at the drop of a hat and the guys working there ("trying to get by") would be out of a job.  I assume that this discussion is also taking place on other VAG associated web sites and it behoves those corporate clowns at MK  not to alienate the organisers  or those regular contributors who help build brand loyalty by these "tidying up procedures"     Now where's my cheque book I'm off to Tesla  :smirk:

How difficult would it be to set up your own trade account?

Do they check properly or could you just print your own headed paper / supermarket business cards and use them?

Aspman,

it gets interesting when the HMRC / DWP/ Council Housing Benefit do like they did Starting in Dundee / Tayside then Fife as Pilot Areas.

Check the Halfords Trade Cards, Screwfix, B&Q / Wickes etc,

and Names and Addresses against Benefit & Housing Benefit Claimants & the Tax Returns & Interest Earned in Bank & Building Society Accounts,

Then they Checked Taxi Badges, Avon & Ann Summers Agents and the likes, even Ebay Sellers.

Looking for that Self Employed Person or Council Employee Claiming Tax Credits, Income Support & Housing Benefits

and failing to declare this income.

They have a nice Fraud Enquiries Office on the Forfar Road & another one in Reading,

and very successful they were tracking down, 'Mobile Mechanics', Sparkies doing the odd homer etc.

What's the situation with buying via a trade account but paying cash? I deal with TPS through work (hence how I know about them) but prefer not to let work pay for them as they then add there own bit on top of the prices.

Can you still get discount that way or the minute you are paying cash they remove it? I did think £80+ for 2 badges and a splitter seemed a tad steep when I enquired the other week

I don't know why you're getting so uppity about people not getting a discount they're not entitled to.

brand loyalty is for chumps

Uppity? moi? :notme:   I admit I'm not very brand loyal,  but also hope I'm not rude to those who are, If you get me onto brand aversion, I'll keep you amused for hours, where shall we start BMW or Audi,  KRAPT or Cadburys   ?  :sun:

I know I am almost 10 year late to the party, but trying to buy some parts from them, and nobody, I mean nobody sells to the public anymore.

Anyone tried this account recently? Or is there another one that tps will sell for cash and not on account ?

Thanks
