Best Aftermarket Stereo Option - advice please

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

I am a newbie and just joined the site after buying my 04 (MK1) Octavia yesterday - immaculate vehicle, 1 owner and only 50k...

My advice is - what is my best option for aftermarket stereo ???

Should i stick with single din with bluetooth or go for double din - if i went for double din i would prefer touch screen...

Also i have an iphone so would need BT Audio ideally..... and if possible one with USB so i can charge my iphone up at the same time....

Has anyone got any advice of units that are recommended and what extras are needed.....

Thanks in advance

I've got a Chinese android double din head unit and I'm happy with it. It has an iPhone/iPod connector so you should be able to do something with that. If not it does support BT audio just fine. I installed Co-Pilot to replace the standard satnav, nice to have nav in the dash, I'm not a fan of gadgets stuck to the windscreen...

I've added DAB too; you just need a RTL2832U DAB dongle (less than a tenner from Amazon) and Wavesink software from Google Play. The antenna is crap though, you need a DAB antenna. I'll be buying one of these shortly:

It'll need a SMB to MCX convertor cable but they're only a couple of quid.

This is the sort of head unit, there are plenty of generic ones around on eBay, Amazon etc.

I've got a BT OBD scanner and have torque on the headunit for Fast and Furious gauges lol

You can even add a reversing camera for about £20

Only downside is it takes a few seconds to power up when you switch on the ignition. You get used to it though.
