Abs & asp lights on

Featured Replies

I think it's a common fault from looking on the forum and Google, but can anyone shed some light on the problem. 57 plate Octavia 1.9 to pd DSG. Light turns off on start up but comes on when I get moving.

I've got a month left on my used car warranty so need to get it sorted asap.

Is anyone around the Warrington area with the equipment to scan for fault codes for me to find out what it is before I go and spend a fortune in a shop for diagnostics?

Much appreciated.

Welcome to Briskoda  :sun:

The ABS and ESP lights can signal a number of different faults.

As you mention the best thing to do is get the car scanned for fault codes using VCDS.

when you have the fault code reference it here for a diagnosis...

Thanks, for the reply and welcome :)

I've messaged two guys local to where I'm working, I work away from home so it's a nightmare to sort anything!

G60 Teves fault or ABS sensor fault is my guess from past experience.

VCDS says

Address 03: ABS Brakes Labels: 1K0-907-379-MK70.lbl

Part No: 1K0 907 379 P

Component: ASR FRONT MK70 0105

Coding: 0017025

Shop #: WSC 73430 790 00000

VCID: 3F8D8D1E6E291CD9575-806A

1 Fault Found:

00287 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear Right (G44)

003 - Mechanical Failure - Intermittent

...I've found that using non OEM sensors break quite frequently again. Can use advise where I can get a new one other than from a skoda garage as I imagine there expensive from there.

It's probably not the Teves, I don't think you have the ASC on that model.

On a 57 plate you might well have a rusty reluctor ring in the wheel hub. Pretty common at that age.

It's just a ring of magnetic steel, they get rusty and a bit falls off. the sensor picks this up as a dodgy signal.

Usually goes off below 30mph then comes back on as you go faster.

If it is that you need a new hub. The reluctor isn't a replaceable part on its own.

I'm going to change the abs sensor first to get rid of that problem, if it is that. But I'm not sure which abs sensor make to buy from is there any I should steer clear from?

Mechanical failure usually means the ring.

If it were the sensor the fault code would implausible signal etc.

You might be surprised by dealer pricing, it often isn't as expensive as you think.

Non-branded eBay purchases vs. OEM and I'd go main dealer everytime.

Try TPS, they only sell genuine VAG parts and can be a little cheaper than a main dealer.

If it's the ring usually the sensor is fine.

I have about 4 weeks warranty left on car and they don't cover ABS parts but if I bought a sensor and replaced it then it would prove its the ring and needing a new hub, so it should be covered I imagine.

I'll phone the warranty company up in morning and tell them the ring on hub is broke I need a new hub hopefully they might repair that

Unless that's a specific exclusion I'd by stamping my feet over that.

The ABS system isn't a 'consumable' part of the braking system like disks and pads.

I had a sensor changed under warranty not long after getting my car.

If the hub is getting done consider changing the stone guard behind it at the same time. It's aluminium and oxidises at the mounting bolts. Eventually it comes loose but is held on the axle which passes through it. It clangs around like an old tin bin. It's only about £20 but to change it you need to take the hub off. So if the hub is coming off anyway it's worth changing the guard.

I'd agree with the posts above there's a good chance it's the ABS ring - these are the faults I had logged on my car when the ring needed replaced:

00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear Left (G46) 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear Left (G46) 003 - Mechanical Failure - Intermittent

When I phoned up my mechanic to book the car in and told him the errors, he said straight away he reckoned it would be the ring that needed replacing as he sees it regularly.  Not that it's definitely the ring but certainly worth checking it first.

Ok thanks for the replies I'm going to get in touch with the garage this week and give them the error codes hopefully they say it's covered too!

  • 2 months later...

Will hijack the thread...

Am I right saying that the fault below means time for a new hub or is there anything else what can be checked first?

00285 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Front Right (G45)
            003 - Mechanical Failure - Intermittent

Thanks
