My Poor Car......many issues in quick succession

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My poor car has had many trips to the garage in recent weeks for various things and booked in for more repairs.

Skoda Octavia 1.9 PD TDI DSG. 109953 miles. 05 plate

First started with the hot start problem. This has been into my idependant and the stealers, but no fault found, no fault codes.

O/S/Front break caliper seized and shredded the pads and ruined the disk. Replaced both front pads and disks. Realised on inspection that O/S/F shock absorber showing excessive movement. Parts have just arrived, booked in on the 3rd August into my local indy (when I have the cash to pay for it all).

Also being carried out on the 3rd is replacing the N/S/F CV boot as it has come lose. They may just tighten it up but may as well replace it for what its worth.

O/S/F Wheel bearing on the way out. Also being replaced on the 3rd.

Air con being re-gassed on Friday, but that the least of my worries right now

And today on the road, I could have sworn I had a miss fire while doing 70ish. Would this be a pointer in why I am having issues starting when hot, and what could that issue be. Again no faults displayed on the dash

Getting to the point where I may have to cut my losses and get rid. Any help guys?

Hot start issues have regularly been attributed to a failing battery. People (including me) struggled to understand this as the car would otherwise start just fine.

Also worn starter motor brushes have been reported.

If one shock absorber is worn it is highly likely the opposite side is also shot. They should really be replaced in pairs.

The misfire might not be showing any fault lights on the dash but there is a good chance a fault code will be stored.

Many Thanks

Battery has been replaced recently, first thing I did but didn't solve the issue. Cam sensor and temperature sensor were sending the correct reading during a measuring block test. Sometimes it will start fine when its hot, but more often than not it will struggle, so the starter motor brushes are likely to be the problem. Will cost around £200 for that, and at this moment in time, I can't afford to replace it.

Both shocks are being replaced, along with top mounts and bearings.

Wheel bearing mentioned above

Thanks for the link, will do some fishing. Up in Birmingham this weekend (barring anymore issues on the way back on Thursday) so will see if someone up there can look at it.
