music on a sd card

Featured Replies

ok since there's no cd and my cars due sat i have just ordered a 128gb sd card, now the question is what the best format to put the music on, how do i get the art work also the radio station logos. i have read loads of different treads but no really sold answers. can someone post a one stop shop list of all the answers. ive got a mac and windows laptop and use an iphone so can copy the music in most formats. Also is there anything else i need to now. it was so much easier just to load the multi cd!

I use 320kbps mp3s.

For covert I use a program I cant remember the name of. But just Google "embed coverart" and you should find something usefull.

Just make sure you make a system when copying music.

Artist/album works great as folderstructure.

I do this & it works..............I rip cd on PC using dbpoweramp & save as flac with album art as normal in the programme for home use. I then make a mp3 (320) version on PC for ipad & car.................I import this into iTunes (on PC). I then copy iTunes music folder to SD card for car.........all works with album art etc..................

Mate, if this works I owe you a beer! You just saved me a shed load of time! So literally copy iTunes folder direct to SD card?

Your album art may not work, depending on if iTunes did the album art, or if it was already embedded in the mp3 tag

I use MediaMonkey - it does the lot - rip, tag, albumart, sync, auto playlists and manage and organise your library

I just rip to cd using Windows media player. Album art all works fine and the radio station logos are all there when the car was delivered.

Enjoy your new car

I have a couple of SD cards - one with my music on and one with "wife friendly" stuff.  Both cards are 32GB, but the principle is the same for any size.

I have a Mac, but I assume this will work with Windows too.

Format the card as FAT32.

Using iTunes, create a playlist.

Drag or otherwise copy music from iTunes into the playlist.

Drag the playlist on to the SD card.

wait ...

Put playlist in car SD card slot and play.

The advantage of this method is whenever you get new music, or get fed up of old stuff, if you keep that iTunes playlist up-to-date, all you have to do is format the card again and drag and drop the playlist, so it's easy to maintain.  Most album artwork seems to go across OK with this method too.

What is it you have that's "wife

unfriendly"???

+1 works for me.

Just to add I have to convert all tracks to MP3 first. Maybe the latest heads play ALL track formats.

Which version of iTunes are you running please?

I couldn't get the drag and drop method to work in v.12

if you have a physical CD you can rip it straight to the SD card with Windows media player. album art is embedded into the file automatically

What doesn't work? The music doesn't play or are you having a problem with the artwork?

@Ash7. Dragging playlists from iTunes on to the SD Card on my Mac.

l was using iTunesMyWalkman which was suggested in an old thread.

I'm using a USB stick plugged into the MDI socket via the adapter cable.

The mp3s play fine it just doesn't see the playlists.
I don't want to play/shuffle by artist/album.

Ah ok I can't help with the playlists sorry. I just dragged the iTunes created folders onto my SD card and did a few things to get all the artwork to show.

yep that's what I do - just copy the music folder from iTunes everything seems to work .......

Yep - I just copied everything in my iPhone music folder and pasted it into the SD card - no formatting or anything - and it all comes up on the Amundsen complete with artwork. Simples!

I use iTunes for music but have it set to MP3 as have problems with other formats. As for radio logos I download from here instructions on the http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=de&tl=en&prev=_dd&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.volkswagen.de%2Fde%2Fmodels%2Fgolf_7%2Fbrochure%2Fsenderlogos.html

Save to SD card and select from menu for each station.
