Fabia 1.9 tdi 100bhp estate Elegance

Featured Replies

Just wondering is there anything I should look out for when looking at buying one of these? Seen one I like 113k full service history belts done at 90k.

Is there any common faults I should look our for with this engine?

Thanks in advance for any help

My PD100 Elegance is close to 144K and no issues. Just feed it the correct spec oil, I get the Quantum stuff from TPS.

It's been the most reliable car I've ever owned to be honest.

Cheers mate, so there isn't really much to go wrong then? I've read that the PD engines are seriously reliable of serviced and looked after correctly. Might go for a test drive and see how it is :) insurance have said it will only be a extra £5er a month to swap it over, I was expecting it to be extortionate going from a 1.4 mpi to a 1.9 tdi haha.

First thing I would do if I get it is give it a oil change just for peace of mind how much does that Quantum stuff cost mate?

It's not the cheapest; last invoice I have is £38.70 for 5 liters. Filter was £3.38 and the sump plug was £1.53. It's essential you replace the sump plug due to it having an aluminium sump.

I never skimp on the oil as the cams are fussy about what they get I believe but as long as the oil meets the correct VAG spec other brands should be suitable.

Not to bad really, im sure a new engine is a bit more than sub £40 for some oil haha. Il defiantly be getting some decent oil and giving it a change if i end up getting it :)

The only thing specific about the estate is to check the rear hatch opens. Mine used to be a bit temperamental. Otherwise it's all same as normal i.e. carpets, windows, washer

When I went from 1.4 mpi to my first pd100 it felt absolutely rapid!

You'll love it.

Haha I can believe it mate, just need to find a good example close by now. The one I was looking at has a damaged wing :(

There aren't many good examples of estates left (mine is covered in dings and scratches when I bought it), as they're not cared for as 'sporty' models are, and it's generally considered a workhorse amongst owners.

Yeah im starting to realise this, the best example i have found is a blue elegance, which needs a window regulator (easy enough job to do) and a new front wing, but thats up for £1k.

Is it worth £1k? Its a 02 reg with 113k miles, full service history and belts were done at 90k. Is this a good price?

It's about the going rate. The PD100 is good for 60+ MPG easily, and running costs are otherwise low.

Check when console bushes were done, that it's had regular oil changes, and if it's had a recent clutch. That should cover most major bills.

So not a bad price then? Id most likely be changing the console bushes for PSB ones like on mine they seem a lot better quality :) i know it has full service history so shouldnt be to bad. Not sure about the clutch tho il have to ask about that when i go to view at the weekend, going to look at a mint mk4 golf tdi estate aswell guessing the PD100 in both of these is the same engine? Or am i wrong?

Quite a few differences, definitely not the same.

Thanks for clarifying that for me mate :)

Which is the better engine? The MK4 is similar miles but body work is totally mint and is up for £895 and the Fabia needs a new wing and window regulator and thats up for £1k. Can't make my mind up :( haha

I'd take the golf if it has service history.

Im going to look at it this Saturday so if its got history, drives fine and theres nothing alarming wrong with it il most likely buy it :)

There's something about the Fabia that just draws me in, going to look at it this Saturday price is down to £945 so might haggle a bit, does anybody know if the front and back seats in my Fabia Hatchback will fit straight into the estate?

Yes they will
