Fag lighter

Featured Replies

My car is less than a year old and the cigarette lighter has stopped working. Is this covered under warranty?

Have you checked the fuse box? If it's a blown fuse that will not be coveed by warranty. Otherwise you should be fine to ask the dealer to investigate under warranty.

It's behind the glove box and I don't want to break it trying to access the fuse box.

Has the lighter part stopped working, or can you still power devices from the socket?

You need to know if you have power to it or not, it isn't hard to work out.

Cheers for that. What new cars have an actual fag lighter? And do you really think I'd post this if I had power to the socket.

Was just asking if anyone else has this problem.

You did say you hadn't checked the fuse, and you did say cigarette lighter. I think you will find it is an accessory socket if you don't spec the smokers pack.

Nuff said.

And if it is just the fuse that has blown, it won't be covered by warranty.

Then if it's not the "cigarette lighter" then don't say it is! Say my 12v power socket isn't working! If my tyre was flat I wouldn't say my wheel was knackered I'd specify it was the tyre.

Couldn't agree more - apparently 4 posts comes with attitude.

I think you'll fit in just fine with that attitude....

If your not mechanically minded then you wouldn't know the correct terminology.

Cheers for the advice BTW

Just check the fuse - the glovebox isn't that hard to remove, it can be a pain to get it back together though ...... until you get the hang of it

Cheers I'll have a look. Hopefully I don't **** it up.

Dunno if you can help with my other post of loss of power

I'm mechanically minded enough to know a cigarette lighter from a 12v socket and also "mechanically minded" enough to check a fuse! Your welcome about the advice.

Anyway, enough said on that now. Do what Andy said and get your fuse checked it's more than likely your problem.

And if it's not the fuse it's under warranty and someone else's problem

if your fuse hasnt blown on your faglighter/12volt accessory socket, check that the earth connectors inside the socket has not been pushed sideways, therefore not making a circuit,it happened to me on one of my cars after i pluged in a phone charger, you need to take a terminal screwdriver and gently prise them out,

Does the socket in the boot run off the same circuit? If so plug something into it to check

I know on a Superb they use different fuses... take a look in the handbook (which you will need to do anyway to see which fuse you are looking for)

On my previous Fabia the boot and cabin sockets were on the same fuse. Don't know about the Octy though

Cheers I'll have a look. Hopefully I don't **** it up.

If you are worried about doing it wrong, just take it to the dealer.

When I used to have a Ford they would replace bulbs & fuses without charging any labour time (not sure if Skoda is the same though).

A fuse will only be a few pense so they shouldn't charge you more than a couple of quid.

You can always ask them the cost upfront if you are worried they might charge you a fortune.

  • 1 year later...

Sorry to come in late on this, but does anyone know if the 12 volt sockets in the front and rear are connected, as in if a wire to the boot one came loose it would stop the one in the front from working? Ever since I had my tow bar fitted the front one had an intermittent fault, now it's stopped working all together. (They both appear to be dead now and the fuse looks OK) Wondered if they moved/dislodged a wire on the rear one when they ran the wiring for the electrics. Any thoughts or ideas from you clever people out there would be much appreciated.

Mine stopped working after I dropped the car keys in the uncovered socket and there was a bright white flash and both the front and rear packed up. Told the dealer it wasn't working (car 3 weeks old) and they fixed it (blown fuse) under warranty.
