WI-FI car scanner

Hi

WiFi WLAN ELM327 OBD2 Car Code Scanner for iPhone iPod iPad diagnostic scan tool

Has anyone used one of these scanners on Skoda Octavia 1.9 PD engine?

I was looking on Ebay I saw that you can buy one of these for about £10.00, before I buy one like to here from others members who have used the scanner without any problems.

Thanks

Michael

Yep, I have one of these from Ebay to use on an Iphone, Worked perfectly from day one.

Used with Carista & Dashcommand no problems

The "Common one" is the one I have, and has been perfect with an IPhone 5 and an IPad mini.

The mini version could be more suitable / Practical if you want to leave it plugged in all the time, But the common one is bigger and easier to plug in and out when needed which is all I wanted one for.

Your choice on that one mate! :D

Bare in mind some drain your cars battery if left in.

I tried a couple of different Bluetooth ones with my Android phone(s). Neither worked. The mini one was an absolute PITA to remove from the socket!

I then bought "the common one" in WIFI version from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00W954MJY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 and have been successfully using it with an iPhone 4S with Carista.

Any idea why the seller says it is not suitable for diesels?

Thanks guys for your inputs.

I have Carista on my iPad mini and initially only want to make one change - to activate the installed DRLs. The reason is that I heard in a radio interview that, in the darker days, black cars have 47% more minor accidents than other colours. (Not sure I believe the number but I can believe that black cars can be more easily missed.)

I have shown that the car responds as expected to the DRL on/off command sequence which uses the left hand stalk, but the DRLs need activating first.

I will order the smaller unit as it claims a greater range and let you all know how I get on.

Mike.

I thought it had to be VCDS or VAS to activate DRL's as far as im aware these elm devices just let you see live data and access fault codes.

What you say is true about about ELM devices but there is more software beyond the ones you quoted.

Best of the bunch for making changes is Carista, available for Apple and Android devices.

The link above gives you an overview but you need to download the free App to see what it will do for our cars, and it will amaze you. Many of the changes can be done if you have Maxidot but I don't.

To actually make the changes you will need to make an in-app purchase of around £15. So for less than £25 it is good value compared to asking a garage to activate features using VCDS or similar.

I have both VCDS and an ELM obdii dongle but I haven't used Carista I normally use Torque Pro. I will download it and give it a go see what its like. Although I wont be making any in-app purchases lol.

Now activated the DRLs using the mini WiFi unit quoted in post #3. Works fine now once I knew that the engine must be running for the wifi to work.

It only took 15 minutes to activate and test not just the DRLs but also the Coming Home lights. I set this to be operated by flashing the headlights and the dip beams to be on for 30 seconds. Carista was easy to use.

How do the CH lights work?

I've read various about flashing lights with/without ignition on, with/without door open etc. I've got mine activated but not sure how to actually get them to work.

You just give a brief flash of the headlight main beam, with or without the door open, and the dipped beams come on for the pre-set time then gradually fade to off in a similar way to the interior lights.

I agree, bought one for android to use with Carista and had to send it back as didn't work.

Thanks, but this hasn't worked for me. I'll have another play deactivating and reactivating it and see if I get anywhere.

This should work on a 2008 VRS? I've got Xenons.

For the pre 2010 cars it says something about personalisation required.

http://www.caristaapp.com/customizations/?car=skoda_octavia_1z_2006

Note that duration must be set to a value, otherwise it may have been set to OFF.

I assume it works with Xenons but perhaps someone will confirm.

No joy. I've tried automatic and "based on customisation" and De activated and reactivated it. And still nothing.

So stop car, key out of ignition, flash high beam and dipped should come on for 30secs - that is right isn't it?

That's it, assuming the duration has been set by you at 30 sec.

phil5556,

One more thing. Perhaps the personalisation refers to the choice of light.

I guess you don't have built in DRLs, so you have a choice of all lights or headlights or fog lights.

Would be worth trying an alternative to your first choice to see if it then works?
