VRS Spark Plugs

Featured Replies

Just back from a service, splashed out on some new spark plugs. Bearing in mind I had a new engine a year ago, how are my plugs? e1cf2c5d818e423c056ada48d62e8976.jpg6b1a3ff706c5887b0158803e632550af.jpg57d56e4950623d7b206f7a639659b1ae.jpg

Last one is to check I've got the right ones in!

I'm no mechanic but service magazines say that the plug ends should be a greyish brown colour.  Yours look to be somewhat burnt which suggests to me that the car is burning oil.  But wait for some more experienced DIY or professional mechanics to comment before taking my word for it.  Not a VRS user so no experience of this particular model.

they look ok :)

More than possible, although they were different plugs, I had a set deteriorate so badly in less than 5000 miles that it was causing misfires.

That is how they go with a CAVE and even some CTHE,  they soot up, and one plug oils up, and when you give the car a good run, get it hot, do some miles they cook up nicely, the engine will be running leaner,

and if you remove them when cool they will be less sooted up.

The Plug that oils is the the one that causes the issues, this can cause the misfire etc.

But all is well as long as you are using the latest plugs, not leaving them for 40,000 miles without checking,

or as some technicians are doing, finding no Codes for a misfire, not checking all 4 spark plugs and letting one that has started to deteriorate stay in the engine.

As my warranty is not far off expiring, I need to do some of the service work myself.

I have located a supplier for a coil pack puller, but I'm not sure what sort of spark plug socket I need. What size?  Is it special to VAG or will any make do?

Help please.

10mm socket.

Thanks for that. Its the same puller I've ordered. Just need to find a supplier for the plug spanner, now I know what I need.

Any motor factor or shop that stocks draper will be able to order one in for less than £6 no problem
