New trim noise: the sides of the dashboard

Featured Replies

I have a new very annoying sound insde my fabia. It comes from the joint between the dashboard and the windscreen pillars. The central dashboard rattle was fixed long ago (2years) and it is still effective, but theese new sounds drive me crazy.

Do you know if there is a fix for this? I can try of course to improvise ... maybe the dashboard screws are a bit loose. Anyone with this problem?

sorry dont no a fix but what was the centre rattle mine has just started to rattle near stereo unit?

opps :o found it useing search

Hmm, could be since my door cards do not sit perfectly on the doors. I've snapped a few plastic mountins ( tree like ) when I did my ICE install. I have new ones but did not find the time to mount them.

To me it seems the noise is comming from over the dash, near the pillars. If I press hard on the dash there it's quiet, but that would also stop the dash from rubbing against the door panel. I will fix the pannels first and let you know.

Yes that was the covers of the doors. I added new plastic mountings to the door cards and now that it's quiet again.

Peeps listen up you will never eradicate ALL squeaks, vibrations, knocks etc so dont even try. ALL cars are complex machines made up of thousands of parts welded, bolted, screwed together AND we have some of the worse roads in the world, so you are fighting a losing battle my friends, science fact;)

I have not driven a car yet that didn't make JUST ONE sound whilst driving, be it a knock, squeak or rattle.

My advice, dont waste your time even bothering, up to you whether you heed it or not:)

True but plastic noises are realy irritating when driving without the air turned on or without music. Fabia, despite beeing amogh cheap cars is realy quiet inside with a petrol engine like mine, and loose trim noises aggravate me.

Most of the time if the rattle/squeek etc wasnt there before, it's because something has worked loose, padding has got uneffective, or something has snapped.

A bit of rubber/foam/new clips will sort most of it out. :)

Yes the solution I know, but to identify noises in a car it can sometimes be a real pain in the ... , now I have a new noise that I cannot identify. I do not know what aggravates me more, the fact I cannot find it or the noise itself: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/t42542-noise-again.html

The creaky sound is back. :((

It seems it like it's coming from where the pillars meet the das. If I insert something beetween the dash and the pillar (taking them apart a bit) it stops. But this could be because of the pressure applied on the dashboard.

Also it seems to me I have some creaking noise near the window (maybe the fans) that direct the aer on the window.

I have fixed the central air vent creak long ago.

Dash out, apply foam to the two prongs the locate the dash into the crash support bar and refit.

Works everytime.

Thanks for the fast reply.

I did not fully understand where the problem is, I know that the dash has a reinforcement bar. Can it be done from underneath? I mean from taking out the glovebox for example?

I cured mine of a similar noise over two years ago by prising off the fuse cover at the right-hand side of the dash and this exposes two hex head bolts. I slackened them, jiggled the bar a bit, tightened them again and it never came back! Voila!. I don,t have a furby anymore I,ve got the new Mitsubishi Colt (excellent) but I will look at the new furby when it comes out.
