Rear knocking sound coming from the wheel arch

Featured Replies

Hi there,

My 2005 Octavia has developed a knocking sound in the rear near side coming from the wheel arch or there abouts. Now the noise is rather strange because when I go over a speed bump there is nothing I can really hear, however it's very noticeable when going over uneven surfaces when there is a lot more vibrations?

Any ideas?

Just wanted to add it's definitely noticeable when doing slower speeds over smaller pot holes ...

Thank you very much for your tips it does seem strange as I can only notice this knocking or rattling noise at slow speeds, I had my coils replaced two months ago now as one of them snapped at the top, have also checked my shocks yesterday and they seem to be fine one side definitely needs to be looked into as the bump stop has pretty much disappeared into thin air. As you say there is nothing else there to rattle so I'm a bit bemused perhaps it's coming from somewhere else.

Looking at the rear suspension yesterday most of the rubbers on the links look worn out and the rubbers split broken I can only assume they have never been changed so perhaps there is play in them hence the knocking rattling sound who knows. I will be taking a long drive to Poland on Sunday and will book the car in for inspection over there to save me pennies.
